Post A Picture of Your Last Purchase

A pair of fat 50-584 thickslicks for my commuter bike:

Might post a pic after installing, it's going to be ridiculous. :D

They put those on a lot of the bikes I ride, but I don't trust slicks. Not any more, not after slamming really hard on a corner.

The bike also relies on a coaster brake so yeah, got to take it easy. At least I can stick to bicycle paths do no sharing the road with motor vehicles.

Why? Slicks offer amazing grip. Only thing you could wipe out from is heavy rain or ice.

I have a trial bike with slicks and im banking some corners nice and low like I'm mentally riding in the motoGP. They give outstanding grip when hopping up to stone structures or maintaining those awkward balances.

I'm talking about morning dew. That was literally all it took.

Yeah, I'm mainly concerned about wet as well. Gotta brake really early when it's a downhill and a single tire has to stop both 100kg me and a 22kg bike, plus whatever I'm carrying. :D

But I'd imagine the slicks will be wonderful to ride on a good weather.

I can imagine my bike becoming a sled come winter, luckily I have studded tires in storage.

The biggest problem for me is the roads. In an ideal world slicks would be ideal, but we are far from that. Grit, sand, oil, etc. They are all your enemy and they're everywhere.

Twice I crashed my Vespa because there was oil on a roundabout.

I guess I live in a close to an ideal world. :P Sure there's some gravel every now and then but it's easy enough to spot.

Btw, this is the said commuter bike. It's a decommissioned Finnish army bike, which is basically build to last with little maintenance. As an added bonus quite a few people have anecdotes to share since we have conscription.

I'd still run those original tires but this happened. And that model of a tire isn't made anymore. :( Then I replaced those with cheapo 40-584 tires but they are awful in terms of rolling resistance, despite not being mtb tires per se.

OMG looz you are such a hipster!

If you insist... :D

My partner is going to murder me when she finds out... hahaha
Hehe. That's half the fun. I'm pretty sure the last time I came home with a big PC purchase while I was still with my ex it was the "a friend from work let me borrow it". A few months later when she was asking about when he wanted it back it was "I haven't seen him for a while, but he's got my number when he wants it back".

While that was all technically true it was more of a try before you buy deal from the start. She never noticed that the random cash I was drawing here and there was paying for it before the guy got a new job.

Of course this was during the break up so I was lying to avoid unnecessarily horrible arguments, not because I was spending money I didn't have. She just liked to get upset with me whenever I bought anything expensive because she couldn't budget properly so the joint account was forever in the red; it was actually a massive contributor to our separation.

[EDIT] Sorry, that got unnecessarily miserable, I do apologise. I really hope you enjoy your new kit. I love my Vega 56 to bits so that 64 should do you well, just make sure you properly undervolt it to unlock it's true potential.

This is why I don't miss being with a woman, Getting shouted at for spending MY hard earned money when it's perfectly fine for her to spend her money as she pleases.

My last girlfriend easily spent a £1000+ a month on herself, Clothes, Makeup, Shoes, Perfumes, Jewellery etc... but I dare spend £50 a month on myself and holy sh** all hell broke loose.

It's why I'm now happily single, Don't have time for women who think your bank account is their rightful property.
