Post A Picture of Your Last Purchase

I might have gotten a bit carried away and spent over a grand on this. Still better than a skiddy GPU, mind.

You switching platforms as often as GPUs now a days as well? ^_^

The 5800X3D is going into my HTPC :)

HTPC currently is -

-Ryzen 7 3700X

-Asus Prime X570

-16GB Corsair LPX 3600MHz

-2080 Super Founders Edition

-Corsair 4000D Airflow

The 3700X will be donated to a friends build :)

ohh dam they tires man i love em

Those tyres split opinion like an axe splits wood :D Definitely marmite !

I got my speaker. Set it up to test last night. Can't believe the vocals sheesh. That said it cost nearly a grand, so I shouldn't be surprised.

The drawers are now empty. The stuff on the top was what I needed to actually keep. Amazing how much crap you can have for years and years without realising you don't need any of it.

I was going to panel in the entire front. That was the initial plan. Then I realised that my brother is bringing down my father's vinyl collection that has not been touched in 35 years or more. He died 41 years ago last week. So I need storage. So the idea is to make the baffle panel with a 10" opening at each end, then use those openings as record storage.

Got a few nice tricks lined up too.

That red and blue sticks out like a sore thumb.

And since you are going to "mod" that chest of drawers, maybe it will appreciate a lick of dark colouring. Black stain for the wood, would look sweet.

Well I guess I can be accused of changing cases just as frequently then ;)

My workstation in its new Fractal Design Torrent Compact home :D

Quite possibly my cleanest build to date.

Mhm, nice build. Almost identical to my own, only I use Uni Fans for the rear and bottom fans, as well as different GPU and motherboard. Other than, identical. Nice one :)

It's solid oak. That's the only reason it's not going tbh.

The red and blue is a PUBG thing. Really doesn't bother me.

But yeah the TV unit would cost so much to replace I wouldn't destroy it. That's why I'm making sure to mod it so that if I ever put the drawers back in you'd never know. Otherwise? I'd build one out of hydra MDF.

I would pretty much have to build a new one to get that size. All of the ones I looked at were not wide enough for the TV, and I can't wall mount that because there is heater wiring back there with wall switches etc.

I'll be moving in a couple of years any way. There will come a point where I can't do the stairs any more due to arthritis.

I didnt mean getting rid of the oak drawers, I meant taking what you have, and giving it a black stain. I absolutely loved my dining table after we gave it the same treatment. While Oak naturally looks warm, it didnt sit well with the rest of the apartment. After completetion, it was beautiful. I did cheat though.. got it done by a professional. But worth it!

I've seen a technique on oak that uses wire wool rusted in vinegar to give a black bog oak finish. That like any other major change would be cool and all but not realistic. Even if I got the TV off I have nowhere to put it, nothing as a stand in and no room to work on it.

Then there's the other issue. It's part of a set dude. So I'd have to refinish the other drawers etc.

Just not doable sadly.

Tell you what I did buy and do that I forgot... Another project done !

I switched broadband recently. To a service exactly the same speed (72mb down fibre) but £15 a month cheaper.

Part of the reason is this.

The cheapo router. Only two ports. So first I got a gigabit switch.

And then lots of networking equipment. Internal CAT 6 cable, pattress boxes, plates, sockets, tools, external CAT 6 cables etc. The aim was to eliminate the power line adapters to the gaming PC and server. They drop every hour or so for a minute. Pain in the balls, they are slow and etc etc. After several hours of work yesterday...

It now goes through the wall to the other side of the room. I still need to wall mount the switch back there, and order some small white patch cables both from the router into the switch and then from the switch into the wall sockets. They are just random cables I had lying around, as I did not want to guesstimate them and get them wrong.

Also whilst I was head first in the crawl space I cable tied all of the wiring I have done now together (speaker wires, sub wires RCAs etc) together and pinned them to the cross beams.

a set even better, how much would it cost to get the pair sanded right down as you said not getting any younger +arthritis sometime you don't have do every single thing yourself

they get sanded down then you can stain them - black or any other colour you want get them looking crisp let the grain pop

im sure you could set the tv down for a week or so till it gets done - 2 chairs and a thick plank of wood set it on that

It's not happening dude. Nothing can be done in here. There is no outside space to work in, and I would never get any of it down the stairs. Paying someone to refinish it wouldn't be a bad idea, only I would need to pay a removal service to get it out of here. 108 steps, remember? around corners and god knows what else.

Believe me, there is a good reason why it isn't happening. It may not match the hifi etc but I don't care tbh. For me it's about the sound. I've done everything I can to make that as good as possible. Sadly, as is usual in life, life is less than ideal. The property isn't mine either. If it was? then my room would look like this. I would move the bedroom into the living area, put a partition wall up to separate it from the kitchen area, sleep in there and convert the bedroom into something like this.

0p3UwpG.jpg

But like I said, life is seldom ideal. I can't treat the wall panels, change the colour ETC ETC. I would love to paint the wall behind the TV dark grey or black but I am not allowed. Maybe that will happen one day if I buy my own property, IDK. Another problem is I can not leave the trust whom I live with OR I will lose all of my support, care worker and so on. So like I said, there are very good reasons why I am not going to get that done. Not just because I can't be arsed. There just isn't room to do it in here, I can't run a sander or do any sanding at all in here, ETC ETC.

And besides, I like white oak. Unlike a lot of wood colour and finish choices it never ages. It's not dark and depressing either. I mean yeah, if I could just roll the bloody thing outside I would likely consider refinishing it. But I can't. If you saw what a total it was just to get that stuff in here you would understand LOL.

Sexy block and them be some thicc fans !!!!

On a side note I blame Tom for this..... ^_^

TBH Dicey I think you're mad, you're putting money into a dead end platform, sure if you already owned a Z690 board then yeah as the uptick is awesome, but as far as I know you don't, you'll be MUCH better off either going AM5 or waiting for 14 series with the new Z890 chipset at least then it'll be more forward facing, giving you a better upgrade path. Just my opinion though, but I don't like seeing good people blow their money for nothing when there's better choices.

Yeah, this is what I essentially thought as well, especially after watching JayzTwoCents video on this. Whatever everyone's opinion of him may be, he made some solid points to be honest. Worth a watch even if you're an enthusiast.

Appreciate the concern bud but Meteorlake going by all available info isn't coming out until this time next year and delays going by current industry info are highly likely due to them going the chiplet route so 1 year, Or maybe more if it gets delayed due to production issues, With the 13900K is plenty :)

Also when I finally take the plunge for DDR5 I want to get some insanely speedy stuff and we're simply not there yet.

Fair enough I still think it's a mistake but fair enough, enjoy your new shinies though bud! :D

Thank you :) It seemed pointless having my X570 Aorus Master sitting boxed and unloved, now coupled with a 5800X3D and 32GB of DDR4 it shines once again; the three Gen4 NVMe sockets were missed I will say.

With the case fan curves dialled in, temps on both the CPU and GPU are both stellar, couldn't be happier :D
