So I just got a call they don't have the 5900X in stock after all and can't get one for months so after some dealing they're sending me a 5950X instead!!

Sweet stuff enjoy putting together the new lego's :D

I've found while my 6800XT overclocks nicely that in general use for long periods of time i leave it on auto default any of the profiles i use give me minor stabilty issues feel it's down to drivers atm thou to be fair it's far better than it sounds.

I'll be intrested to see what clocks you get 2550mhz is as far as mine will go my cpu for sure holds it back, but you with your fancy 5950X I'm sure you will fair better :D

It's not for me. One of our PUBG team mate's rig keeps crashing so we are going to loan him a rig. We were just short a case between us, so I got that for it.

Bought some higher voltage rated capacitors with some matching capacitor mounts and more octal sockets for my valve amps.

I'm going to re-cap my AV32 at some point. Been pricing up Nichicon gold vs Rubicon and Audio Note.

Need to get a proper desoldering station first though. There are far too many to want to spend hours and hours digging at holes with a wick and sucker.

I still don't have a proper desoldering station either. I've got a really good RS branded sucker which seems to do the job very well.

Capacitor wise, if it's not in the signal path directly, stick with low ESR types like Panasonic FC, FM, FR or Nichicon PW, HN, HE or Rubycon Zl, ML. If it is directly in the signal path, use bipolar electrolytic if a poly film cap (MKP) won't fit. The best bipolar I've found is Nichicon MUSE ES. (nichicon MUSE are one step above gold, you get MUSE KZ which is polar and ES which is bipolar) Some say that Elna Silmic II are the dogs whatsits but having tried them, I don't find them to sound much different to the ones listed above and bipolar is always superior to polar.

Nichicon ES are instantly recognisable as they are vivid green. This amp got KZ, FG and ES. The boxy caps are suflex polystyrene which are considered a step above MKP.

If my poor little bwain can remember I'll let you know the results whence it arrives :D

Well auto default is what is working sweet for me, think it's cause when using the presets as the card is an AIB OC it doesn't like going at lower clocks so it's all over the show when using them, or at least the settings used in them presets are not right for my card.

I think your get higher mhz than me thou and for sure better fps in general my card performs best when something is more demanding but at 1440p 144hz most games I play are above 100fps even something like BFV with raytracing is around 80+fps avg, your more likely to get better fps with that CPU thou without doubt.

When gaming mine is boosting to 2400mhz pretty much all the time it's a really nice card thou and suprisingly quiet hardly ever has the fans turned on unless in port royal it's really weird so used too hearing jet engines lol.

I was half expecting driver issues, but they have been very minimal in general and the actual layout of the menu and UI I really like, the 6800XT is way too powerful for a 1080p monitor thou it for sure wants more work to do :D

Well buddy mine will sure get a workout on my 3440x1440 144hz monitor, this card should drive it beautifully and I got great news this morning my stuff shipped! the cards landed in Aus earlier than expected so excited right now :)

Kei - it's currently running Rubicon. They are original, hence my thought of re capping it (it's got to be at least 12 years old).

http://www.awdiy.com/index.php?page=tag-mclaren-av32r-dp-op-amp-replacement-2

I shan't be doing the op amps or what not.
I'd only recap anything that is pretty close to parts that get hot. 12 years isn't that long in the swing of things with good quality capacitors. I've had amps over 30 years old that still have perfectly functioning electrolytic capacitors as they don't get hot and aren't heavily stressed.

On a side note, more stuff arrived today to allow me to build a DC filter for the mains feed to my amps to help try and minimise transformer hum. I have 3x DCT03 filter PCB's, a mountain of Neutrik powercon inlets and outlets, a polycarb housing, lots of P600J diodes and epcos 68000uF capacitors.

So as some of you may know my job went south a month or so ago, My job is a very person to person orientated job so mr pandemic made it a no go, I had to get rid of my rig and basically everything computer related in order to stay afloat, Yay lockdowns....

Anyway finances are back under control so I'm slowly putting together a build, I'm starting with the case and cooling, The theme will be silence with zero amounts of RGB or close to, The motherboard, Memory, NVME, CPU and GPU can wait until around the summer as new stuff will be out by then -

Case is the Fractal Design 7 XL

3097866-l-a.jpg

I got an extra 140 fan for the front, It's a Fractal Dynamic-X2 PWM 140, The case already comes with 3 of these so this is for a total of 3 x in the front.

Dynamic-X2-PWM-BKO-GP-14_1-1-1440x1440.jpg

Cooler is the Fractal Design Celsius+ S36 Prisma, The RGB will be set to a dim white, I won't see it anyway.

HS00DFD_246243_750x750.jpg

Those 3 will be with me in a day or 2, Next month will be the PSU, Until this build is done I have a decent laptop to tide me over.

For peripherals which I will get over the next 2-3 months as well I'm going with a clean aesthetic, Mouse will be the MX Master 3, Keyboard will be the G915 Lightspeed Wireless with all lights set to a very dim white, Mousemat will be a plain black deskmat although finding a decent one with no branding is difficult, Headphone will be the Beyerdynamic DT770 250 Ohm, AMP/DAC I'm still choosing, And mic will likely be an XLR mic with audio interface likely a Scarlett solo with AT-2020.

So it looks like I didn't win the silicone lottery with either product as my chip does 4.8 and the GPU does 2300 still I'm happy enough just to have them.

Another one of these.

That will drive this.

Being bi amped.

One of these. Proper mains conditioner.

And four sets of these.

My rack came. Built it up. Just waiting on the cables and etc.

And over the past two days I crawled into the eaves and cleared everything out...

You can see the small wall there before the roof begins. I fitted a pattress one end..

gEYEa7z.jpg

Using quad cored cable. Soldered that end up, that was the easy end.

nHMemcV.jpg

I could not use a pattress at the other end. The cabinet would have hit it.

1am this morning..

And the rear amp is now over where it needs to be.

I sold off all of my old AV gear yesterday. I'm a stickler for doing things properly, and I didn't fancy a round two in the bedroom.
