Hi all,
I wonder if anyone has come across or knows what the problem might be:
I recently blew a 3870X2 graphics cards because of a short on the cards board, just before it blew (with lots of smoke) I heard a whining noise from the psu.
After replacing the faulty card I find that using 4 * 6 pin pci-e connectors works fine but if I try to use any of the two 8 pin pci-e connectors my comp starts to boot but then just shuts straight down within a few seconds and the red fault light on the psu comes on (this happens with one or both cards fitted)
I think it must be a short inside the unit, I am just wondering where it might be.
The unit is still under warrentee but that will mean sending it away for god knows how long, so I would rather try to fix it myself.
I know I can run the cards using just the 6 pin connectors but for the overclock you need to use the 8 pin.
Any help much appreciated.
