Please recommend PSU and watercooler

Hi,

I'm doing major upgrades to my PC.

I just bought this case from thermaltake:

http://www.thermaltake.com/product/Chassis/fulltower/armor_lcs/ve2000bws.asp#

but I read that the watercooling setup is tacky. Is this true? Can you peeps recommend a good watercooling system?

Also I need to get a new PSU to power the 4 fans, cooling system and everything else including a Quad Core, Geforce 8000GTX, 5HD, and ASUS striker motherboard (all of which get really really hot, so again a decent and reliable water cooler would be needed im thinking)

What are the best (and quite) PSU's out there?

And how many watts/voltage should I get?

Thanks!

if ur cooling all those components with thermaltake, ud proboly kill them. ur gonna need at least a 120.3 to cool ur 8800 and ur quad core. theres so many pumps u can use a D5, aquaxtreme, DDC+ with a top from Liang or Petras. For price and b/c its a quadcore id go with and Apogee GT. and its ur choice whether u want a full block or a core block i say for the 8800. For a core block right now ud have to go with a MCP60, and some ramsinks, or just a full block offered by dangerden or EK.

Thnx for replying.

So I took your suggestion and bagged the Swiftech Apogee GT CPU Water Block in my shopping list.

I still can't decide on a right pump that will complement the 120mmx240mm radiators, or the right tubing for that matter.

I also looked round for the PSU.

I've narrowed it down to the Lian Li, Corsair and Thermaltake.

Which of the these do you recommend?

And how many watts should I be looking at!!!

(bearing in mind i might put 2 GPU's in this baby)

Thnx

Thnx.

I'll be looking to cool the GPU as well and use the

Swiftech MCW60 VGA Cooling Water-block (with Ramsinks??) to cool the GPU.

What's the difference between one which has ramsink and the other which doesnt?

For Quad core and a 8800 you are going to need at least a 360mm rad as ai said, A 240 wont cope well enough with the heatload(circa 250w off the cpu alone). The D5 would be the pump of choice to go with that.

As for PSU, your going to want somthing in the 800w range to say safe with 5 hard drives. The 850w OCZ GameXstreme i reckon. Any of the usualy brands if not (Targen, PCP&C, Silverstone).

Heres a full block it will cool the core and the ram on vid card. Its simple its easy very cool looking, h/e a minimal performance decrease, b/c it cools the whole card. If u want just a block for the GPU, it will cool it more b/c hence only the block is being cooled and not the memory, the mosfets and the I/O chip. Heres a core block, ud also have to get this to cool ur mem, mosfets and I/O chip.

Oh poo, so did I make the wrong choice already by buying the thermaltake case b/c of the 120mmx240 fans?

Will I need to get another radiator to cope with the heatload?

boy, this is waay complicated than I thought

what about the cooler tubes? 7/15 inch?

btw thnx

i use to have the thermaltake armor as well i just took a quick photo it will house a 120.3 and will leave u with two drive bays one for a dvd player the other for a p/w button and a floppy drive.
get.php

and then just store ur hd in the back cage in the back where the 90mm fan is near the PSU

oh i get it now, so you have 120mmx3fans.

what did you do with the fans that came with the armour? Are they worth using - i mean should i get 3 more new reliable/efficient fans? DOH! What did you do with the fans that came with the armour?

why arent you using the armour anymore??

this is making me uneasy

sorry im getting a little bit comfused -

what does '360mm rad' refer too?

The radiator fans right?

Is this the pump you recommend?

http://www.dangerden.com/store/product.php?productid=175&cat=4&page=1

Thnx to ai too, will get full block

The 360 Im sure refers to 3 X 120mm fans. That pump is Very good.

Also the Lian Li 600 would be Plenty for your comp. (and really quiet too)

I think where Ham is going is saying better to have Extra just in case.

first, welcome to oc3d! for the rad ur deffo going to need a 120x3, thermochills are t3h pwn. as for psu u r going to want 750+w if u plan to go sli gtx. as mentioned brands to look at are silverstone, pcp&c, tagan, enermax, zippy/emacs, fortron. steer clear of tt psu's. cheers, nice system in the works!

Thnx everyone! This is a great forum.

Yes I live in london.

Well I just bought the OCZ Gamexstream 850W PSU, so that sorts out that out :D

And please verify if the Alphacool Laing D5-Pump 12V 1/2" is a good choice.

There are a couple of things I need some pro advice on:

1) The D5 pump only comes with ½” fittings.

I've read on other forums that 3/8” are better for bending around and for heat dissipation etc.

Would should I do?

I'm thinking of getting these coz they look awesome but pls tell me whether or not PVC is gd or not:

http://www.arcticmod.com/computer-m...d-pvc-tubing-12-id-34-od-for-12-id-tubing.htm

or

http://www.dangerden.com/store/product.php?productid=58&cat=0&bestseller

seems more resilient??

2) The thermaltake case comes with 2 fans at 1200RPM.

Is this going to be fast enough to cool an 8800GTX GPU (and maybe a another one in the future), 5HDs, Quad Core, Mobo plus run the pump?

I'm going to get a 3rd rad like you guys suggested, but which one should I get? And if i need to replace the thermaltake fans for more powerful ones please tell me.

3) Oh and additional stuff that I havent mentioned like reservoirs... am i missing on anything else??

Thnx!
