Planned upgrade in the new year/end of dec

So I'm finally upgrading my PC after about 2 years of having this one and I couldn't be happier. Seeing as all this new tech has come out, I have quite a bit of catching up to do.

So here's what I'm thinking:

CPU - Q6600

MOBO - Either Abit IP35 pro or Asus blitz extreme

RAM - This is where I'm not sure yet

Video card - 8800GT

PSU - Something like enermax infiniti

Sound - X-Fi Fata1ty

As for cooling, i'll probably stick to air, but you never know, I may dive into water a little later

Please let me know what you think and give some ideas on what needs to be changed

I recommend some Corsair ram.. XMS2 is very good stuff!

thats the ram i have and i have no problems with it. and what tox said everything else looks amazing.. i want to upgrade now lol.. too bad i prolly wont cause i want a lappy for some stupid reason.

is that the asus with the water cooled parts? if so i'd avoid that and go for the ip35 pro

as for ram, crucial ballistix is extremely cheap i picked up 4gb of ballistix 8500 ram very cheaply

so far i'm rock solid

i'd also get the auzentech x-fi prelude instead of the fatality but thats just because i love mine and the outputs are FAR better

Ballistix, had a very bad experience with Ballistix DDR (had to RMA it on 3 seperate occasions before giving up and ebaying it), maybe their DDR2 is better but its put me off it for good.

Personally I tend to buy cheap DDR2 for systems im building, as long as its not really cheap shiz and matched etc, its worked fine for me. Obviously if you're looking for overclocking performance and low latency timings then its not great, but for a normal user on a budget its a good way to save some pennies.

I was using GeIL in my last rig, overclocked really well and had great CL4 latency timings. I think the prices arent too shabby either...

At the present moment in time, if some1 is suggesting a new rig comprizing of Q6600 IP35 & 8800GT, for the price it`s pretty hard to stear them in another direction unless they`re on a tighter budget.

Beauty advising people on that trio too, is that u know the only gaming they will fall short on is probably Crysis @ maximum settings.

So with RAM, it looks as though the speed will be PC6400. Should I now find some that have the best timings? I see that 4-4-4-12 is pretty much what it's going to be like. Has anyone had experience with the mushkin XP series? I'm really attracted by the looks of the heatspreaders

Abit looks like its also cheaper than the ASUS Blitz.

and for PSU i would go for 620Watt Corsair, or PCP&C 610/700 area

I have also been looking at the ASUS Maximus Formula....not the SE (special Edition) which features the watercooling, but just the regular version.

If you guys say NAY, then I shall stick with the IP35 Pro

I guess the best person to ask would be Jim seeing as he has first hand experience with the SE version.

In your almighty greatness and knowledge, do you believe that the regular version would be a better investment than the IP35 pro?
