looking to over clock my p4 2.66ghz advent 3312 sys as its old and need abuse

any help please as total noob

BIOS Phoenix-Award BIOS.

Motherboard MSI MS-6703

Memory 1024 MB DDR RAM - PC2100

Does your BIOS have the option to change FSB/Multiplier/Voltage at all?

Have a butchers around and see what ya can find :)

it has spread spectrum=0.21/.30/.35\.40

cpu freq=default,100,133mhz

is that it fella just upgraded bios and still the same with added options

o and its asking for a macc id can i just make 1 up ???

umm yeah, you'll want to get rid of that mobo, OEM MSI board thats about as overclockable as a dell, and I'd know :p I can help you pick out a new board if you want, my dothan clocks have to count for something ;)
 
just need help getting more speed out of this old puppy

read mother board spec said built to over clock so thought it would be easy.

jst ordered agp graphics card and power supply and a new bios so if i was going to upgrade mother board what should i get?

happy to spend money but thought if i start small build on this comp first as its old and doesnt matter what happens to it hehe

CPU Core Speed Derivation Procedure

CPU Clock multiplied by Core/Bus ratio equals the CPU core speed.

from spec

For example:

If CPU Clock = 100MHz

Core/Bus ratio = 14

then CPU core speed = Host Clock x Core/Bus ratio

= 100MHz x 14

= 1.4 GHz.

there enlies your problem i think. All that info is read only, meaning no clocking through the bios sorry.

tbh I think that you will be fine with a 7800gs, 1GB ram. The 2.6 P4 may hold it back a little but should be ok for a nit. i recently did i friends system and he was using a celly 2.6. Sutied him no problem.
 
just put power supply in works fine .

but put geforce card in booted up after uninstalling old 1 and there a blank screen

took it out put old 1 back in works fine

put geforce back in boots up ok then crashes

any 1 now what iam doing wrong?

is it ok to install driver on system before i install geforce card ?

It should be. Does the 7800GS need an extra power connector to it? If so make sure its plugged in...

I recomend puting the old card in, removing ALL old video card drivers. Taking old card out, puting new one in. Then installing drivers for the new one.
