Picture differences between identical displays

Hi,

I bought a second iiyama X2377HDS (third will probably follow) but the pictures between the two are not identical.

The screen connected through DVI is bright, whilst the one through HDMI or DVI to HDMI adapter doesn't seem to be able to achieve the same kind of brightness and in comparison looks dull and grey.

Anyone any ideas how to fix this? Settings for each are exactly the same, except for the HDMI / DVI cables.
Or is the only option getting a DVI cable? (stupidly left all my spares at home)

To follow on from this;
If / when I get a third monitor, how would I go about connecting this to my 670 if it is going to be different through HDMI? Or do I then need to go through display port adapted to DVI? and would that then need to be active?

Thanks in advance...

I'm sure I'll have missed something out somewhere :)

I now have 4 iiyamas, 3 bought this week, one from a couple of months ago.

They all all work fine together - the screen going through HDMI is a little dimmer than the two through DVI though.
Maybe switching to display port to dvi adapter will solve this?

Would it need to be an active adapter?

I can only think that the monitor/video card is treating the signal differently because it's going through the HDMI port. Like, it thinks it's a TV, so it messes with some settings. As it stands, the digital signal should be identical, so it's the only thing I can think of.

If you change the cables around so another monitor is being powered by the HDMI, does the same thing happen?

Swapped the cables round, causing the other monitor to appear darker - it appears it is to do with the HDMI.
If I disable nvidia surround it does display the HDMI screen as a TV...

So I'm guessing going through display port would fix this maybe?
Anyone have any idea over the active or passive adapter to convert it to DVI?

Yeah, that should fix the issue. Not that good with my adapters, though. All I know that, through reading the forums, the passive ones seem to break a lot :(
