people who think quadcores run at 10ghz+

take a look at this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAZwHDGz-3I

a guy has put 5 systems in to one case. a pretty cool thing. but even this guy thinks a quadcore runs at 4 times what it is rated at e.g. the old ebay special of a Q6600 running at 2.4x4, 9.6ghz!

they have all got a 2.66ghz quad core processor in and so everyone on the comments and the video itself is like OMG 4X2.66X5=53GHZ ZOMG ZOMG

i wrote on the comments how wrong they were and i get replies like 'no offence but 4x2.66x5=53ghz'

so frustrating, coming from someone with the youtube name 'MISTERAMD'

If I have one pet peeve that gives me murderous intentions it is people who add the cores together and state stupid figures.

Ebay is notorious for this. There was a willy warmer on there a few months back trying to sell a Pentium D and had it listed as 8ghz. When I asked him how that was so he said that it would OC to 4ghz and you double it because it has two cores.

So I reported the auction and got it closed :)

LOL it's even stupider of them when you think that it's 5 SEPARATE systems running so each one is processing completely different stuff. Even after someone came up with the great analogy of "this thing hasn´t 53GHZ!!!!!!!

just think about 2 cars driving with 50km/h... they wouldn´t be too fast because they drive 2x50km/h and not 100km/h".

*sigh*

Hmmm yeah an explanation of how multi core procs work would be nice to see out there... people don't really read though they assume.

The thing is number sell. if u walk into bestbuy and look at a computer. they are way out of proportion, Iv seen computers with advertising 12gb of ram 1gb video card and a intel core 2 quad!

turns out its 12gb ddr2 533 with high latency, an nvidia 9400 and an q8200. costing the same price as my gaming pc

Yeah Best Buy were terrible for that. About the only thing they ever had in there that was any good were the early Alienwares. But of course it was far better to spec and order one from the website any way. (or of course build one yourself if you could be bothered to :) )

PC world do it here too. I got an Advent a couple of years ago (desperate measures, I had NO computer nor the time to build one) and it was covered in stickers saying how marvellous it was. It wasn't that bad spec wise (2.2ghz Phenom quad, 4gb ddr2800 etc) but the quality of the parts was horrendous. Mind you, it was really really cheap. So to that ends it got me on my feet and allowed me to build something better, having a PC to at least order parts with :D

It's because they're been sold on the wrong selling technique of "this PC has 10Ghz process power when as this 1 only has 8Ghz" yet if we break it down it's a 4Ghz dual core vs 2.5Ghz Quad - a lot of store do it - the good 1s sell it as "2.4Ghz Quad core (10ghz processing power when fully utilized)" which is more sensible and true if you've got the apps for it to run like that (in a simpletons view anyway) although as we all know it just doesn't work like that...

People who think quad cores run at 10Ghz ++ is stupid. /End of discussion.

Yep its one of my pet peeves too...along with people who do the same thing for the sound systems in their cars

"I've got ten speakers in my car all rated at 200w each...ZOMG thats 2000w!!!"

@Goran

I'm gonna use my first post to congratulate you on your awesome taste in music

On topic though, I hate seeing this happen, as already mentioned it's worst on ebay where unknowing buyers think bigger numbers = better. Should be banned on ebay really

BTW, I HAS A 5.4GHz LAPTOP

Quite happy with my 12.8GHz quadcore xD.

I feel sorry for the guys who buy PC's on eBay because they say it runs at a amazing 10GHz though. But TBH, they kinda deserve it for not having common sense
