People like this get me so mad :L

So my mate who knows nothing about computers told me that he has a maximum of £500 to spend on a new pc and it has to be good for gaming, Obviously I told him to buy parts and put it together, I suggested him this - https://www.aria.co.uk/WishList/Vpw8yx6tcP7gSg6tnXAl3Q,, - FYI He had no intention of overclocking hence the i3 and h61 board.

But rather than getting that he decided to go with this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VIBOX-QC-...PCs&hash=item336645c01a&_uhb=1#ht_2494wt_1139

I have been telling him not to for like the last hour or so but he is one stubborn guy :L

He will end up having to get a new graphics card and most likely a new psu to :L

Just thought I would share

-sigh-
There are too many people like this around. A little bit of reading into the subject, and people's PC buying experience would be a lot better.
People would buy what they needed, and not be tricked by ignorant sales reps.

I know people like this too. It annoys me when they ask me for advice and then decide to go another way just because they see a "deal" on ebay or some other ecommerce site. The whole reason they come to me in the first place is because they don't know anything about hardware but then they choose to ignore my advice anyway.

At the risk of offending people, I would like to state one of my (many) favourite (generalising) sayings. "People are stupid."

I agree, it doesn't take much effort to research enough to have a basic understanding of what you need. There's plenty of websites out there that do reviews and at least one that does comparisons based on hardware specs.

Best of luck in convincing your self-misguided charge, to make the smart choice.

Completely understand. My brother needed a laptop for uni and I found him one. He had about £450 or something to spend and I found him one with an i5 and dedicated GPU(can't remember which one but it was decent enough) and it was £411. But he insisted on going to PC world were he then got ripped off (as you do) by a sales rep who sold him the cheaper version of the laptop I'd shown him. It had an i3 and intel3000 GPU but was £399

tbh I just laugh at ignorance now there's no point in getting frustrated as hard as it can be sometimes

Cliffs:
My brother is an idiot
PC World are criminal :)

Similar story for my mum a while ago...

I found her an Acer for £550 with an i7 and a 540m.
But she insisted on getting a 17'' screen so ended up spending £650 on a Viao with an i5 and integrated graphics

Since we seem to be sharing tales of woe....

I have a client that drives me batty.
Every time I visit their place to work on their machines, I end up updating most of their security (windows updates included) and running scans and defrags. That I can cope with, even if I disapprove.
What frustates me most, is their buying habits. Every time they need a new ANYTHING, they make me find the most top-end thing and buy it even if it's crazy expensive.
I wanted to cry after I got home from helping them order an Intel Core i7 3xxx (socket 2011) system, with 16GB RAM, Radeon HD 7970, SSD boot drive and 3TB 7200 RPM HDD... why? Because I wanted one? No.. although I do. No.. the reason I wanted to cry was that this machine was going to be used for MYOB (accounting software) and emails. Nothing else.
The above example is about the third or fourth computer I've helped them purchase, whilst trying to convince them that a lesser machine will do what they need for just as many years. They just don't listen to reason. It hurts me that all those terrific transistors are just idling away whilst they balance their books.

I own an acer and have had it for quite a few years. It's cheap for the hardware although the build quality is something that could be looked at. No major problems though.
