Which Budget Lens?

Long story short, I bought a brand new Canon 100D a few days ago with the intention of using to film parkour and freerunning videos with my team. The lens on it is only a kit lens so is a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none...

Basically I am thinking that I want a simple 'Nifty Fifty' kind of lens and since I'm on a budget and want a new lens so that I can film with a higher shutter speed and lower aperture, I found these that I think will tie me over until I can invest in some real glass.

The main reason I'm wanting to shoot with high shutter speeds etc. is so that I can use the Twixtor plugin to slow down my videos nicely and give my videos a professional look and mood.

I'm a complete noob when it comes to cameras so the lenses I've linked probably aren't even compatible but oh well, you never learn if you don't try... :)

The 100D shoots 1080p at max 30 fps, so you can't really slow it down. You'd need to shoot at 720p 60 fps so that you could play the finished video back at half the speed.
But I don't think you benefeit much from a new lens that lets in more light, as you don't need crazy fast shutter speed for video. I think that you usually set the shutter speed to double the value of the fps of the video, so 1/120 s for 60 fps. This should be no problem in normal daylight with the kitlens.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I use my DSLR mostly for photography and haven't shot too many videos yet.

I was going to be shooting in 720p but was intending on using Twixtor in post to allow me to get a faux slow motion video. Twixtor is a plugin for After Effects that allows you to do this be creating filler frames that it generates (somehow ^_^). The optimal settings for doing this envolves having a high shutter speed, large aperture to combat the need for a high ISO which ends up giving horrid grainy images.

With the Pentacon M42 you will need to get an M42 to EOS adapter to go on your camera. Otherwise it simply wont fit. The M42 mount is a screw mount and the EOS mount is a Canon specific type of mount.

The Canon 50mm 1.8 is a great lens, it however is made out of plastic and this means that the build quality isnt the greatest. However it is a great lens optically, I have owned 3 of these. I broke one of them and the rest have just been sold to buy better versions. I now own the F/1.2 which is amazing.

For photography, I would say to buy the Canon 50mm f/1.8 as this is a great still lens, However for video I would use the Pentacon in conjunction with an adapter. The focus is generally nicer on these old lens (only manual). the auto focus on the Canon lens is quite noisey and a bit clunky!

Thanks for all of the info mate :)! I actually ended up going with a Japanese made 50mm f/1.8 lens (I think its Japanese ^_^) which cost me ~£50 which will hopefully do me nicely for the foreseeable future and give me some nice quality when shooting videos and capturing the best moments of my life!

The lens I ended up going for was a Yongnuo 50mm f/1.8 lens which thankfully has toggle able manual and auto focus modes :). Another bright side is that I'll be able to get some nice pictures for you boys on the forum of my rig (when I get round to it that is ;)).
