I have to use my pentium 3 right now. I want to know if I can do anything to raise it's speed above 500mhz, a little behind todays machines.

just overclcok from the bios. it's supposed to be overclockable from the bios like moder pcs. just check if you have good cooling ( altough i don't know if p3 get hot )

on my old P3 mobo, the FSB/RAM frequencies were set via dip switches on the mobo... so ghetto... and it was a 733 coppermine too!

My old PIII was overclocked by changing the jumpers (Instructions in the manual)

550mhz Overclocked to 613 I think , man was it alot faster.

I was working on it a last year for something and removed the heatsink, the old paste was crusty.I put some new paste on it and wow, it was like new again, it ran strong for 613mhz.

those p3's kicked. do you know why the dothan's are so good? They're a p3 on steiroids, literally.

small short pipeline (not some prescott escapade) and mid to high clock speeds chock full 'o cahce.

Yup this is exactly how my old one was... I'd check the manual (if u still have it. highly doubtful) and see if it shows you a jumper diagram of the board, it should also give a detailed explaination of which jumpers change what.

@harmonic: Duh, we're working with a P3, lol... They don't have new P3's :)
