PC World Dual Core Advert

ok i work there as a techie.......and even though i dont see myself as the best techie around, nor the most knowledgable (all i have is an HND in network engineering and security, + the usual home taught things), i deem myself to be one of the best techies in pcworld chichester (branch 4893 if u were really at all remotely interested (which im not))

now lets see what ive noticed.

£15 for a 1m patch cable

£15 for an adsl filter (bagged not in plastic vacuum thing)

crap staff

so called "techies" that dont know the first thing about computers (the "head" techie didnt even know how to set up a network printer (EVEN THOUGH THE IP ADDRESS WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM ON A PRINTED SHEET OF PAPER)

incompetent staff (eg saying they removed norton when they blatently hadnt)

their healthcheck consists of:

adaware scan

solo antivirus scan (free edition)

disk cleanup

msconfig

all that for £49.99

well chaps, there u have it.

useful in an emergency, but then again so is novatech (the latter being a damn sight cheaper).

btw their so called "instant replacement" on products like printers etc - WILL ONLY COVER A PRINTER UP TO £130, after that its got to back to the manufacturer to be repaired.

I'm afraid I work at Pc World aswell :( (Branch 4824)

I work on the technical desk answering technical queries and customer services....and the human race are horrible horrible gits! they're so mean to me :(

Have nooo respect, I also get to sometimes help behind the technical desk so that's not too bad, but at the end of the day...its a source of income.

Hmmmmm. Dare I say I was escorted off the premises of a Currys store once:rolleyes: I lost them a sale:D

I saw a mate of mine in there one day. Now, he has a similar spec PC to my AMD machine, just a slower CPU and cheap DDR333 RAM that's not dual channel.

Anyway, at the time he had a nVidia GF4/MX440 in his machine, so he goes toddling off to Currys looking for a new card. When I walked in he was just about to give his credit card for a £499 P4 Prescott waffle maker that had 512Mb RAM and 128 on-board Intel extreme graphics, because the salesman told him that AGP cards are no longer available and his best bet would be to upgrade.

I talked him out of it and gave the salesman a bit of training. We were then marched out of the shop by the security guard and left the manager fanning the salesman with a tea towel. I took my mate down the road and got him a 6600GT/256 and 512Mb dual channel DDR400 RAM for less than £150.

good on yas m8,

i hate when moronic salesmen/women are either not trained properly or try and sell u something u dont need.

thats one thing i dont like doing in my business, and i will only do it if it will benefit the customer in the near future due to him not having to spend £££s buying upgrades constantly.

Yes, according to PC World, Core2 will allow you to multiply your Jamiroquai.

They talk a lot of ****.

lol - yesterday i told my boss i refuse to recommend norton.

he said "well, if the customer asks for norton, you give them norton, but if they ask your opinion, you can give them your opinion on a different product"

hooooooahhhhhhhh

(outta the crap they sell (mcafee or norton) i generally say this "out of the stock that we have i would recommend mcafee"

and if they ask "what about the stock that you dont have" then i recommend AVG..........although i still dont fully trust their firewall, their antispyware though i CANNOT fault.

Good for you Cyber!

I hated that advert with "have norton antivirus for half price" It should have in the small print "So you can slow you nOoBish Pc down even more.. "

WoOt to that! :p

A friend of mine came into college last week and said "I bought Norton internet security half price"

I was like omg I just took it off a friend’s computer the other day and replaced the antivirus with NOD32 and the firewall with Sygate

I really hate those PC World adverts aswell :(

That dual core one was just so annoying aswell, But that sort of thing actually happens in the store. They would sell a Geforce 8800 to an old woman just to make some quick money and probably tell her she 'needs' one

I went for a job in PC World ages ago (yer I was desperate) and I got offered a job, but the cheeky gits wanted to pay me shelf stackers wages for being a techie. Then in the end they said I was "over-qualified" :( think the bloke who was doing the interview was scared I'd take his techie job.

The only one person I've seen who actually knew something about computers in pcworld was a mac expert.

It is fun to ask the technical staff technical questions tho, just to watch them squirm or say "I'll just get someone else".

The latest funny was someone asking where the ipaq's were with the 4" screen (hx4700). The bloke took them over to the monitor section of the store  :D

You've got to feel sorry for the idiots who buy full systems there tho, the ones who end up buying surge protected plug sockets for £25 and software like norton or mcaffe.

I got fed up with a few people who have done this to me tho :( they bought a pc setup from pcworld and expect me to fix it. I just can't be bothered, if they were dumb enough to spend £1000+ on a system I could of built or sold them for £500, they can pay pcworld to try to fix it.
