PC wont boot

Hi, I built my own PC back in January and haven't had any problems with it up until now. After reseting the BIOS settings it will no longer boot, it doesn't even start to post; after pressing the power button the system fans start up the system fans start up for less than a second and then the system turns off again (the system fans are powered through the motherboard). I've tried switching out hardware but still no life. System specs:

Intel i5-3570K
MSI Z77A-G45
16GB G.Skill value ram 1600MHz
Generic 400GB 7200RPM hard drive
OCZ ZT 750W PSU
XFX Core edition HD 7850

Take the battery out of the motherboard for 5 mins then try again. If that fails check for dodgy connections on the mobo, including ram.

I've tried taking out the battery for about 10 seconds and then retrying but that didn't work. I'll try again though and leave it out for a longer time. Also I have checked all of the connections on the MB and all of them seem to be fine

Indeed, if its still having problems......

Checklist
[ ] Replace the battery with a new one.
[ ] Remove the ram, and test one by one.
[ ] Remove the Video Card and try using the onboard (motherboard) graphics
[ ] Clean out the fins on the heatsink (both cpu and gpu if you can)
[ ] Blast the motherboard with compressed air (or carefully with a hoover)
[ ] Check that the motherboard is not shorting itself out)

After leaving the battery out for about 5 minutes the computer will now post and I get a screen saying that the CMOS has been reset, it gives the option to either press F1 to go into setup or F2 to continue to boot.

No matter which option I choose the screen goes black and nothing happens. There are no error bleeps and I have tried switching my monitor to the on-board graphics connectors to check if its using the right video output but still no life in the monitor. Any suggestions?

**Update** I've now managed to sort out the problem, the offending item was a dodgy stick of ram
