p6t DRAM timings

I'm using a p6t motherboard with DDR3 OCZ 2000 mhz ram. I wanted to try and get my ram running at the full 2000MHZ but under the AI tweaker menu. I thought it would be a simple task of changing the DRAM setting up. But it seems have 800, 1066, 1333, 1600, 1850 and 2133Mhz.

How would I get my ram t0 2000mhz?

Its all linked to the BCLK of the chip dude and works in multiples, 200bclk x 10 links in at 2000mhz dead, but obv that means a fairly big overclock.

160 x 12 = 1920 though so that may be more realistic.

or

133 (stock) with a 15 multiplier is 1995 if the motherboard has that as an option.

Basically if not you will have to overclock the cpu to change the BCLK which will allow you to change the ram settings. Its difficult cos it may not even run at stock without playing with the really in depth timings.

I have 2133 OCZ that wont run over 1800mhz atm

I've installed CPU-Z which is report a DRAM speed of 900Mhz does that mean I've got my ram up to 1800 Mhz?

Although it does seem to say I have single channel ram for some reason.

make sure you ram is all in the same coloured slots. and yes 900mhz is 1800mhz.

Bios should tell you what it is running at.

I had it in the wrong slots didn't realise that there were special ones you had to put it in. It now says double channel although is DDR3 meant to run triple channel?

It is yeah but aslong as they are all in the same colour slots it could just be cpuz reading the bios wrong dude.

I put the BCLK up to 170 which just got me over 3Ghz.

Although I can't seem to get my ram up to the full 2000Mhz I getting stuck around 1800Mhz and CPU-Z is still saying I have double memory ram. Guessing I would have to fiddle with the ram voltage, timings and such.

you just need to change the memory divider dude, on an asus it should be a list of ram speed choices.

just noticed it says you have 4gb ram, so thats probably why its running in dual channel, im guessing 2x2gb sticks or do you have 4x1gb?

I have two x 2Gb sticks of ram. So that's why I don't have triple channel.

I take it if I fill all of my ram slots my machine will run as fast because there will be more ram to write/read

If you only have 2 sticks what volts are they running at mate? Its not above 1.65v on the dram is it?

Currently it's set to auto although I have a feeling I had it up to 1.90 which is over the recommended voltage.

I did never give the processor a full load though, although was tempted to run prime 95

one an X58 board you need lower volt ram, you shouldnt use anything over 1.65v on a 1366 cpu as it will fry the cpu running it at 1.9v. The memory controller is built in to the cpu and can basically kill your cpu.

You really need to buy some proper ram dude and quick.

I have OCZ gold ram which is meant to be designed for running i7's. I turned the DRAM bus voltage down to 1.64 and still managed a 170 * 18 overclock. With the ram running at 1700Mhz.

If its 1.9v ram its not i7 ram dude. TBH you need to get a decent tripple channel kit for it.

My motherboard automatically set the voltage, the ram runs happily below 1.65

When I turn up the other settings the motherboard sets the dram bus voltage up automatically. Unless the ram has some way of telling what dram bus voltage to use for what Mhz then it has nothing to do with the RAM.

I have checked and it is only two channel ram which is a little annoying as I would have bought the triple channel stuff as I have found it cheaper per stick than I paid for the two channel stuff. Although I have seen that the performance loss is minimal.

As I said I managed the same overclock with the ram voltage set to 1.64 as I did with the 1.9.

If your ram is rated for 2000 mhz at 1.65v it will do it, it shouldnt affect your cpu overclock if the ram is set to the default speeds and voltage, oh and going over the specified voltage could damage your ram and will more than likely void your warrenty so just be aware of that.
