I use a Maximus Formula M/B with a qx9770 cpu, need some help on the best settings to OC, voltages, to cpu ratio setting fsb frequency etc..how far am i able to push the cpu? cheers

Every cpu is different dude, you have a reasonably good mobo though. Have you overclocked before? Have you read the guides?

If you are looking for us to give settings and you bosh them in for a max clock it doesnt work like that. Overclocking is about playing, and testing to find out what works best with your kit. Once you understand the basics youll spend days in the bios!

Well i have, but just on a basic front, as looking for the best OC settings for the cpu...

Reread my post mate, there is no such thing as being given settings Im affraid. You have to put the work in.

I edited the original post thats all dude. Theres loads of guides on here in the overclocking section. Have you looked at the bios much yet?

ive had a good look, got the idea, but need some help with the voltages, my friends pc, has volts around 1.6, but want to know how safe and far u can go without damaging..cheers

Your mates PC deffo has not got cpu volts of 1.6.

What cooling do you have as heat will be you main problem after overclocking.

If he's got 1.6v it's only because it died and he can't get back into the BIOS to lower it. Wow. 1.6v.

I think the lesson there is treat "mates" overclocking advice the same way you'd treat buying a dog in a pub.

i'm pretty sure thats what i seen in his bios, its a high end Vadim pc,fully watercooled, Intel skulltrail board..which runs 2 9775's(he's running one in there), i just looked to give my self an idea, 10x by 400..giving him 4ghz..whats a save bet for me on the voltage side? Have got a top end watercooling setup, m/b card and cpu watercooled, 1 main res, a mini res...

well 1: you cant run a skull trail with 1 cpu.

2: 1.6v 24/7 would kill a cpu even if it is under water and a retailer would deffo not be sending one out volted like that. (mind you vadim went bust so maybe)

MAX safe on a 45nm cpu with good cooling is 1.45v, make sure you watch your temps. You will need to play around with the other voltages though not just the cpu matey.

To no.1, yes u can run 1 cpu mate...thats 100%, i'll 2nd check the volts for u, i was of course surprised as well! righto thanks for the tip, will give it a go on that volt at a very max...
