Hey! I've never overclocked before and this is my first build.... Is it worth overclocking and if so how would I go about doing it since I have not a blinding clue how to!

Gigabyte 990FXA UD3
AMD FX 6350 With Zalman CNPS 9900 Max
8gb Corsair Vengeance
Corsair GS800w
AMD Radeon HD 6670
1tb WD Black

First thing you should do is Read! and read lots. Go through the OC forums on here check out Toms OC guides on youtube and when you've done that do it again, you have some real research to do before you are ready to venture into tinkering with your hardware, I think I read up for about 6 weeks before I even started changing the frequencies and voltages in the bios and I was already 14 years computer savvy but it certainly payed off in the end.

and this is a great forum for help and advice if ever you get stuck or a little confused. Good luck.

I have that same board and an FX-6300, I was intending to OC but I'm a little hesitant at the moment as the Northbridge heatsink feels ridiculously hot even when idling on the desktop.

Did some reading and don't think I really need to overclock at this point so going to wait awhile. I'm upgrading my graphics card pretty soon anyways so will wait till after that at least! But thanks a lot =)

To be fair you have a fairly solid system 3.9Ghz AMD with 990FXA chipset Although I do agree you would benefit greatly from a better GPU, the Radeon "Turks" chip is getting on a bit also look at a solid state drive you'll not regret it. I recently installed one for my OS and it's stonkingly fast she boots in 8 secs and loads Photoshop in just under 4, how a computer should run in my honest opinion every other computer I use just feels slow now. ;)
