just built my new rig based around

MSi Z77a-GD65 and i7 3770k, played around with a few settings (ratio is set to x47)

but when i get into windows it is ALWAYS at x41 and will not budge beyond

please help

I did follow a few guides to the tee on here to get started with oc'ing. As even oc genie didn't want to oc.

Currently just seems the board refuses to go over x41 despite settings otherwise.

When home again i will re-peruse the forums in depth to see if its something simple i've overlooked.

Don't get me wrong x41 is still the highest i've obtained. But for the £spent i wanted at least 4.5,.

Is it a possibility the silicon lottery has me stuck with a cpu thats unable to even push a ratio beyond x41?

If you've set a ratio above 41 and the CPU is unable to get there, it would just crash, wouldn't it?

Give some screenshots of the UEFI, see if there's anything that can be done.

Thats the thing. I don't honestly know. Oc'ing to this degree is pretty new to me as always had amd that didn't like going more than 2-300mhz over stock. I assumed it was the mobo downclocking to a stable state but not really sure now lol

Next time i'm home i'll get some screenshots

I just thought of something...did you up the voltage? For me, the voltage in the UEFI is locked, I have to change it from within windows. As far as I remember, you can get to 4.2GHz on stock voltage, but that's usually the limit.

Use the provided software (ClickBIOS II) to up the volts. Don't use the other software, as changes are reset after a reboot.

Am in the pub watching england play atm so can't post actual specifics.

I could originally change volts in the uefi, but only until i installed the newest bios which then locked the volts to auto.

I did up the volts to 1.375v in click bios ii as i have seen several suggestions that this would probably be ideal. Not sure about cpu throttling due to temps as it reports 35-40 degrees at 4.1 and if i run cpu-z straight from a cold boot, that still reports it at 4.1.

But like i said, i will post pics when i am home next.

hope this helps somewhat

i think i may have inadvertantly stumbled across the answer.

looking at the cpu-z readout and comparing them against google images, i have noticed that it is not in fact a 3770k but a 3770 that i was shipped, so will have to arrange a return to get it swapped to the cpu it was supposed to be

yeah just double checked the box and its a 3770, never figured to look at it before lol.

kicked off royally with amazon as the shopping link to the item is for a 3770k

so gotta disassemble to pack up for returns and wait for replacement now, yay amazon
