Hey guys , so the last time i was on this fourm i had an old Intel Pentium E5400 STOCK ! , with a FOXCONN G31S Motherboard and 2GB of RAM LOL , So about 4 Months ago i decided it was time for an upgrade and got my self the following,

CPU: AMD Athlon ii X4 640-3.0Ghz STOCK with STOCK heat sink and fan
MOTHERBOARD : ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0
RAM: Corsair XMS3 8GB DDR3

The system has been up and runnign now for about 4 months , so I was wondering- How would i overclock my CPU and what the benefits are ?

can you guys help ?

Thanks

You need to get an aftermarket cooler before you can really start to do anything.

The older AMD heat up very quickly, and the stock cooler won't cut it.

also an athlon has a locked cpu multiplier so you can only overclock via the fsb, (this will also overclock your ram!).

He should be fine with the Corsair XMS3 it clocks really well, it's why I stuck with it for my current rig personally I'd upgrade to a black edition or move onto the FX CPUs where he can access the multiplier.
