Orange monthly deal

Hey guys

Iv always been on pay as you go but i find myself using my phone more and more being away from home.

I was wondering if this was a good deal and if i could bargain with them yet, or are you supposed to wait a year or so before you start pulling the strings.

They have offered me an LG secret, £20 a month for 18 months 200 mins and 1000 texts

Im currently with 02 payasyougo - expensive :p

Im mostly interested in contract due to the "free" upgrades as my phones always tend to start breaking within a year and a half lol

Avoid Orange. Worst coverage and customer service I have ever received.

Vodafone and O2 ftw.

Go to Phones4U, they do really good deals. Most contracts are 18 months now, p4u will look at a buy out 10 months onwards which is pretty cool.

T-mobile are doing some crazy £30 p/m deals, 700 mins ultd texts...

Voda have a wicked one £45 p/m 900 mins, ultd txts, internet and mp3 d/l's.

Dial a phone always have crazy offers.

Play with the phone first to avoid getting a lemon. Check your T's&C's too...

Orange is one of the best here - but O2 are faultless unless u are in the countryside - happens a lot when u live surrounded by countryside hehe

Vodaphone were my 2nd option as iv heard good stuff from them

The thing is £30 a month is too much for me and £25 would probably be pushing it. £20 sounds fair enough to me.

I could always go sim only - but then iv gotta worry bout buying the phone, breaking it or w/e.

So you would recommend visiting phones4u and see what they can do for me?

Im right in avoiding t-mobile and 3? And only considering vodaphone, O2 and orange?

Any specific makes to avoid like the plague? One that spring to mind to avoid is Motorola. I dont like laggy crap restricted interfaces :p:p

Motorola are better than they used to be but I'd still avoid.

Good makes - sony erricson, samsung, nokia.

Good networks - voda, o2

Bad networks - 3, and I'm saying orange from my exp.

Check review sites, mobilephone-review.org or something seems good. You also get user reviews added but take with a pinch of salt. Mobile phone sale volumes mean there will be a number of faulty units and retards using devices. In fact ignore all user reviews as everyone has different boxes to tick. I could say get phone X becasue it ticks all my boxes so it is a good phone, for me. You might have different needs and think it sucks.

I'm saying look on dial a phone, go into p4u, see if they offer you anything better, play with phones and go home and order from dial a phone lol. I always go to p4u because my mate is a manager and he always hooks me up.

Note: ALL salesmen in all the shops are on comission REGARDLESS of what they tell you.

P.S £20 a month? You taking the mick? You sure you only spend that? I find it better to have a higher tarrif and not need it than have a lower one and always go over. Once oyu go over your free mins it's an invitation to be ridden and your bill will be high.

I wont go over 500 texts and i hardly call so 200 mins or so will do me - i wanna get in the contract market due to the fact - my manager at woolies has been with orange for 7 years or so - hes on £15 a month unlimited texts, 800 mins and a free n95 - I WANT THAT lol

Any particular phones to request to look at while im there then? Iv just modded my k800i to a k810i so thatll do for now and il keep it as a 2nd phone ^^

Depends what you want from your phone.

Something techy but nice is the nokia e71, something small and sexy is the samsung u800... The samsung i900 is supposed to be better than the iphone so maybe have a look...

Ditched Orange myself. They had an issue sending text messages to the states since AT&T moved about, found the issue myself, the people at AT&T were pretty helpful - even gave me the info and error details, Orange just didn`t want to know. Gave them a good number of weeks and attempts to try and solve it.

A few weeks after ditching them, I kept getting calls from them asking me `why` and can they tempt me back - pffft.

O2 since, and haven`t had an opportunity to complain.

Reminds me, contract is up September :yumyum: where`s that 16g iPhone page..

Orange are pretty good in areas.. i was with them for 4 years.. 13-17, then i moved because thier customer service was pretty bad. Vodafone are definately the best imo.. O2 suck in my area so i havent used them.

Back to orange I say get in online.. dolphin 25 for £20 when bought online.. 200 mins and unlimited texts.

Hmm.. it might have just been my experience.. It was the shop in my home town, they dont seem to care for their customers.. Orange do the best unlimited text deals though tbh..:yumyum:

ok thanks guys - im goin to primarily opt for vodafone as iv heard nothing but good stuff about them

i really want the omnia (i900) now lol - will they stick religiously to their price plans or will i be able to get them to price match/swap/change stuff?

Yeah my sister just got a new phone (blackberry pearl in the end) but said the omnia was stylus operated. I said it cant be as the tocco is smaller and is finger operated. I think the sales man who demo'd it to her was a spanner. They werent in stock when i was looking so i can't comment. Write a text in the shop, some random chat, if you don't get on with it instantly avoid, sure you'll get better but not that much better...

Voda let me drop my price plan from £50 to £40 to £20. I beleive you have to wait 9 months to LOWER your plan but can increase it instantly. Check that. Obviously you get worse phones on cheaper talk plans...

Ya - i think the idea of getting a swish phone is getting to me so much lol

I can always go in and have a big chat about it and say - tell you what, do it for £25 and u got a deal lol

But yeh, some deals are tempting like £17.50 for 5 months...but then it goes up to £35 for the remaining 13 months...that wud cripple me

Some of the deals are tempting where u pay like £30 on the phone then the monthly prices are a bit lower - i just cant see myself keeping up on large payments every month..id end up going into debt lol

We have a phone turnover in this house of about 6 phones a year and so far 3 mobile have been the best. All of them have had customer service of a standard thats required me to threaten letter bombings but I have never been without signal outside in the whole of south wales, the west and as far as I know, a small part of essex. So really it depends where you will be spending most of your time.

If you get such a deal from somewhere like fones4u, you should be able to get a lump of cash off them 'to ease later payments'. If you ACTUALLY save that money it will take the sting out of it. My last contract was 19.99 for 6 months then 29.99 for a further 6, but I got £60 cash in the store there and then which meant it worked out at 20 a month all year

Yea that is true - id just have to promise i dont spend it :p

Do you recommend taking out any cover? Any general tips apart from obviously try the phone in the shop...anything to ask such as free chuck-ins?

They work on commission and will chuck as much free stuff they can get away with without scanning it in to secure a sell. So take them to the cleaners. One time I was looking at phones and a guy approached me:

"can i help you?"

"yea im looking at this handset but its a bit pricey (£180)"

"well we could perhaps do it for around 150"

"hmmmm"

"125?"

"hmmmm"

"100?"

"hmmmm"

"50?"

"hmmmm ok deal but I want a bluetooth headset too"

As for cover, it depends on the phone, if it's one thats getting dated I wouldnt bother, hopefully by the time you lose / break it you will be wanting to pick up a newer model on ebay. If youre getting an iPhone or something though I would recommend looking into phone insurance companies yourself rather than just taking the deal they offer in the shop.
