Opteron Help

Ok I will list below the stuff I ordered for my second high-end rig, I have yet to get a processor, and I want some input from you guys.

DFI Lanparty UT Expert

x800GTO2

X-Fi platinum

Thermaltake Tsunami

GeIL One BH-5

Seasonic S-12 600w PSU

4x Hatachi SATA II drives which will run in raid 0

But I need a processor, right now I have a 3000 someone can lend me but I want something better, I was lookin at the opteron 148, 150 or the 170 dual core. I would like to stay below $550 but any money I can save will be used on modding parts so it doesnt have to be that high.

Why not try and get hold of a Opty 146 Cabye 0540 and get it clocked up.

Also you should look at the 7800GT's instead of the X800 GTO2 as they are old technology now and the 7800GT's are only a few more quid.

why make a build now when M2 is around the corner ??? If you are getting the X800GTO2 then get the crossfire board. That will be better. Sapphire board is on the market atm. So is Asus and MSi is just around the corner.

Processor , opterons are being phased out. So u can get one right now but San Diego's arent bad either. They work better with UTT than opterons. A 4000+ will work just fine for you. It can easily hit 2.8ghz. Or a Dual Core 3800+ to tide u over till u can invest in a nice high end processor.

PSU , get the OCZ 600 Watter or PC&P . With your setup however , an OCZ 520 Powerstream will work just fine as well.

BTW why get a x800gto2 when u can get a 7800 GT for a little more ??? That would rape the shit out of x800gto2 neday. Monarch has an evga 7800GT for 300 USD with rebate. Cannot beat that .

Firstly I wouldn't go with the Expert unless you want to risk frying your CPU. They're toasting CPU's left and right, I'd definately steer clear until a newer revision of the board is released.

As far as DC Opty's I love my 180, it's wicked awesome. If you're looking for some super high clockage I recommend scouring around for a CABNE single core while you still have a bit of a chance to find one.

The other parts look good to go!

I hated my X-Fi with a passion but it's all personal pref in the audio dept. I suppose. This new BlueGears card linked up to my Z-5500's is just leaps and bounds ahead in music sound quality.

I have a XFI XtremeMusic which has been no problem at all, the crystalizer makes one hell of a difference and in my opinion the whole card lives upto expectation, I would say get the xtrememusic edition and save a few quid for more important parts.

Well I'm not lookin for an overclock system as much as to use what I have already. Everything I listed I have and the expert is fine because monarch tested it before they shipped it. The only think I need is a chip. I love the dual core opt'ys as well thats what I was leaning to but I still havent made up my mind.

I have :worship: opteron 148 and it is great - The best way to explain the speed for me is I play a lot of COD2 and before with old rig I was always last on new map ..now I am always first ( and its not the ping as I always (well 99%) have the worst ping.

Dunno if that helps :)

I'm playing with the Opty 146 at the moment. Currently running at 3.1ghz - not too shabby for a £120 processor :D

Ive looked at alot of the smaller ones and since i love my 280's and I'm going to stay with air cooling, I think I'm going with the 175 ;)
