Opteron 1xxx series. Discussion

Iv preordered 3 144's.

They are gonna replace all my Winchesters/newcasdle cores, perhaps even my FX55, if it does 3Ghz on air then its a certainty.

I think you'll be lucky to all get your 144's at the same time - I know for a fact there are "supply & demand" issues regards this particular cpu at the moment.

I realise, im not to bothered when i get them, i would like one to start playing with but its all good as long as they dont significantly change in the next batch and start o/cing likedogs.

even then cant really complain at 120 quid a pop

I received my Opteron today, I ended up changing my order from a 144 to a 148 to avoid the wait... plus the 11x multi is handy.

I popped it straight under the prommie to give it a workout and see whats what, but it seemed to get stuck at 280 HTT... It was like the memory controller was cack, but I doubted that was the case somehow. Anyways I fiddled about with the Max Async Latency and managed to push it to 311 x 11 (5:6) for a total of 3.421 GHz @ 1.55v. I've yet to dare trying voltages upward of 1.55v but I wouldn't be surprised if there is still a bit more left in this chip as it was still nice and cool. I'm chuffed with 3.4Ghz but of course I wouldn't say no to more.

The stepping is CABNE 0528 GPMW if that makes any difference.

That looks impressive to me especially considering the outlay. I got hold of a 148 with the same stepping and I'm using water so I'll see how I go. Still kept my 144 order as well so I'll sell on the weakest one. Good luck with your further tweaks :)

Please can one or both of you PM me with details of where u got them, and how long you had to wait? Would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Kenny

Its been a long time coming, had to wait for something better than my 2Gb Geil value but the Gskill saved the day!

3Ghz was a piece of cake with my GSkill LEs, its an Opteron 144 CABYE 0536GPMW:

Thats at 1.64V ish set in the bios, load temps were 44 degrees, should be some headroom in both the chip and the RAM, not had a fiddle with lower voltages yet.

Best £120 ever spent :D FX-57 beater ;)

Cooling is:

LRWW waterblock

AquaXtreme 50z pump

2x120mm Swiftech rad (bargain from OcUK itself)

2x120mm fans at 5Vs (silent :D)

1/2" Tygon tubing
