Opteron 148 - Overclockable?

I spontaneously ordered one of these Opteron 148's for my DFI-NF4 - just wondering if anyone has any info on them, specifically whether it was a good choice and how overclockable it might be, what I should expect on water etc...

(please note - being an Intel person, I know nothing about these!)

iv got one, cabye 0536 gpmw

was at 3.3 on my chilly with no problems memory 1:1, can get it up to 3.4-3.5. All depends on the stepping really

it depends on the stepping and TCM and TPD values as 404 has said.

Average stepping your looking at 2.6-2.8ghz at 1.5-1.7v

Good stepping will be like 2.8ghz-3ghz at 1.4-1.6v

Excellent stepping would be 2.8ghz -3.2-3.3ghz at 1.4-1.5v

Sure! A lot of ppl are making noise about CABYE0540- especially for the Opto 146`s. Those seem to do ok under phase as well. the CABNE0540 were doing really well on air too- 3 and 3.1GHz

The CAB2E have good memory controllers and do well above ambient, but seem to suck royally under phase.

CABGE- same as the San Diegos. Not the best.

Onto TCM and TPD:the higher these numbers are, the better. a TCaseMax (TCM) of 57 or above is good, but you these values are chip- specific and unless you`re buying 2nd hand, ya wont know what numbers you`ll get. The higher numbers OC better, but generate more heat. The TPD scales with the TCM value.

Ideally: a 146 CABYE 0540 BPMW with a TCM of 61 is the best *I think*

the newer weeks 0543 and 0546 and new stepping CACJE are still kinda unknowns- i`ve seen 2.8 but thats about it.

WOW! How cool is that - I never knew that was possible, I'm already starting to like this whole AMD thing :D

Well the Opty should arrive some time today (my first AMD64! :)) - then I'll be able to find out exactly what stepping it is etc...

You can't really tell what will and wont work. It's all a lucky dip really. Same with the FX's some 57's don't like phase at all, whereas some eat it up. It's been like this since the 939 chips started coming out unfortunately.

Yes but as a rule the stepping are a good guide altough not definet. Is the cabye good on phase most of the time?

If anyone is useng an Opty under phase, can they tell me there stepping.

Sounds to me like you already know the answer (80% of anyways) but I agree it would be good to have a database of how steppinga are going, however, especially with Opterons as soon as teh word 'cold bug' came out of the woodwrk for these - phase cooled users stoipped looking for anything other than the above mentiuoned stepping so teh task may be harder to implement than we first suspect.

But to show an excetpion to the rule - Dazboots wk16 FX57 under r507 mach cooling would anly do 3.5ghz benchable whereas Gollums (and quite a few others) went quite a bit higher.

Luck more than judgement, but a bit more info would be useful.

I can tell you Boardy's FX55 loves the phase cooling - but if you want it I feel sure a premium price (£500+) would be well justified (as it is essentially as good as the average wk16 FX57).

Well I HAD an Opty 146 0546 FPAW and it didn't like phase cooling whatsoever. I got it to 2.1 and it wouldn't be stable after that so I got an x2 4400+  .
