Hello guys, just joined. Im hoping to tap into some of the extreme knowledge in this here forum, to further my attempts at overclocking. Some of you may know me from CPCFF or even from the CPC forum. I recently upgraded my kit to have an Epox EP-8NA sli socket 754 mobo, and a Leadtek 7800 GT TDH 256 GDDR3. Almost as soon as getting it all up and running, i was sent off shore to work for 2 weeks. So, i havent had a chance to explore the set ups potential. I am currently blessed (?) with a Clawhammer 3700+ and some fairly bottom of the heap, Twinmos DDR400 Ram. I have upgraded my PSU to a Storm Blue 500W, and it's currently nestled inside a half finished A-Open Tower case, that im in the middle of modding and spraying.

I wondered if any of you had any advice for achieving the most performance out of my card and CPU.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Forums! :)

First of all what cooling are you planning on using? If you are sticking to air, then it may be worth investing in an aftermarket cooler for your GPU, such as the Arctic Cooling Silencer. This will allow you to achieve greater overclocks, using software such as Rivatuner to increase your Core and Memory speeds.

Same thing goes for the CPU really, get a sexy cooler on there like one of my personal favourites from Thermalright - XP-120, or XP-90C. Although people seem to be favouring that new Gigabyte cooler.

Once you get bored of air, give water cooling a go. Then once you are bored of that, move on to phase - by this time you'll be broke! :p

Just post if you need to know anything else, someone is usually around to answer pretty quick here, and enjoy your stay :)

I currently have a stock cooler on the card, and an Arctic cooler 64 on the CPU. I tried overclocking the CPU in my old board (An Asus K8V SEDeluxe) and only really got it to 2.6ghz, not really that stable either. I was using a (hides face in shame) Q-Tec psu before *ducks rotten fruit*, but have since upgraded to a better solution. I have an Arctic NV5 from my recently sold 6800, but it has ceased operating. Not sure why, any ideas on fixing it? I wonder if it just needs stripped and cleaned.

Im sure i could find a better cooling solution for the CPU, although im not keen on spending a fortune on AIR, as i would like to upgrade to water, sometime this year.

I would be comfortable fiddling with the bios, although i have never done so before, i feel brave.

I have used Rivatuner now for the last 2 years, and recently to unlock my 6800NU (this was sold on as Unlockable, so i can't claim any credit there).

Im looking forward to gettin 'involved' with this Settup, as i managed to overclock my old P3, then all my subsequent GPU's and kind of felt constrained by my last motherboard, i now have a relatively broad range of features open to me.

I also hope to upgrade to another Leadtek 7800 GT this year, and so getting all the performance i can out of this rig is paramount, as, if i upgrade again, im likely to be doing so as a divorcee (lol).
