Nice way to greet us all to start with......

But 2600k to 3570k isn't an upgrade at all, it's a downgrade. They're pretty evenly matched core by core, but the 2600k has hyperthreading.
I wouldn't even bring the motherboard into question, it's just a pointless 'upgrade' to start with.
If it's used for gaming, the 2600k isn't gunna bring framerates down whatsoever. He won't see any difference in gaming at all I don't think.

even with changing to z77 its still a more or less worthless upgrade unless he is going like 3x 680/7970 where he would need the extra bandwidth

lol meant nothing bad by the starting phrase lol. But yeah y'all are hitting on everything I have told him thus far. But I guess unless he see it in writing then he wont believe it. I think its more of a $$$ burning a hole in his pocket thing. Not much he can spend it on that will improve his performance for 185$. Trying to convince him to save up a few more $$ and buy my 6950 xfire setup. So I can buy new cards lmao :) but he's sporting a 580SC so I'm having a tuff time on that. Specially since he's heard my 6950's on air before lol

Is he playing on 1 screen? If so, what framerates is he getting?
If it's anything over about 50 which is likely on that set up if it's single screen, he isn't really going to see any benefit in gaming from anything he buys.

Maybe save it for Haswell?

What case does he have? 185 would cover a nice new case if he realy wants to spend it and his current case isnt to great.

owning such a GPU is dangerous..

symtoms:
feeling invincable in a fire fight
blaming the CPU core(s) for a bottleneck
having too much cash in their pocket(s)
cocky know-it-all attitude of power and performance applications
lack of knowledge about integration of PC parts

cure:
swift kick in the buttocks! bound by TIM laced cotton rope, hog-tied and
propped-up in a corner to listen to and infinent loop of a 1980's classic of
"girls wanna have fun".
then once docsile, slow paced teachings of what smart PCing really is...

lmao airdeano thats to funny but my bytch slapping him hasnt worked yet i doubt that will.

He has a decent case that does what he wants he isnt into looking great but performing better. I've told him he has about the best bang for buck setup he can have currently.

waiting for haswell might prove more daunting to him than most. But also iirc theres rumors afloat that intel is going to solder the cpus to mobo in the very near future making cpu swapping a thing f the past now mind you this is rumor but I have seen it more than once now. Basically making it like the Atoms.

ive got one of the SOC 580 and i know what he's experiencing. i even bought a
Z77a-GD65. 'sperience taught me the money hole is deeper than i thought and
i alone can't fill it up. second GPU one should be here in a week or two.

there is absolutely no upgrade difference between my ASUS MIVE-Z and GD65.
benchmarkwise, i think i lost a lil on CPU scoring. and changing the CPU to an
i5 ivey processor will go deeper into the toilet from the i7 already owned.

Yes getting him to wait for Haswell if you can, will be more of a cpu upgrade.

Does he have water cooling? He could drop some cash on that and overclock.
