This Titan X has started doing my head in. It really has. I went off to buy a 1080Ti Hybrid kit.
But you try finding one ! They are sold out the world over
I went to Alphacool and looked at their GPU kits but again, "Awaiting stock" so even the expensive option was a non option FFS. I looked at the Arctic.
But my dead nan (god rest her soul) could do a better job. Why would you force the removal of the entire cooler then replace the lovely Nvidia backplate with that rubbish? it looks horrid and costs £120.
OK, so a few guys have mounted regular Hybrids onto the 1080Ti and it looks like this.
That is the look I am going for. I have now purchased a 1080Ti stock cooler complete.
But there is a problem. I can not mount any AIO onto the core (unless it's a Hybrid of sorts) because the VRM plate gets in the way. What I mean is when you try to mount a regular AIO using a home made bracket the cold plate on the AIO will not touch the core. It is because of this area here.
So, you can either bodge it and leg it and use a shim (and hit over 65c easily) or you can buy another cooler and cut up the cold plate. Obviously I am not taking a Dremel anywhere near my Titan X cooler, so that's why I just bought a 1080Ti stock cooler for £35 inc. I will then mod the mid plate so that an AIO can mount firmly onto the core with no shim, keeping my Titan X parts intact.
This is where my good friend Gareth comes in. He will be making me the adapter to hold the cooler on. Not decided on a cooler yet, but will need a round one. He will be reading this thread, so dude, we have a couple of options.
We can make something that looks like this.
Or we can make something that looks like this.
That goes over the top of the pump and pulls it on that way. Obviously it wouldn't be as secure..
FAO Gareth - I have a AM4 retention mech here you can use for the measurements of the pump etc. I will pop that in the post ASAP !
