Only 4GB out 6GB recogized

Before i was about to install windows, i checked the sata cable for the hard drive and optical drives to make sure they were properly connected. I then i saw that the sata cable for my 160GB drive was very loose so i plugged it back in fully and went back in windows to do some back up before i reinstalled windows. I right clicked my computer then properties and there i saw 6.00GB, nothing else

It was the loose sata cable from one of my hard drives that was causing the problem lol

It's the last thing you would ever think causing it as well, good job you noticed it.

hey did you get you board to recognize your ram now? i am having a similar problem.

have you tried.

1. Testing the ram in a known good slot one at a time with memtest if all pass chances are your ram is ok

2. try starting each memory slot with a known working module one at a time to make sure all your slots work

3. check you have all the right settings imputed for your ram eg the right voltage and timings.

4. make sure your cpu is clean and you have no bent pins by looking at your mobo and turning it and you can see the pins as you turn it in the light a bent one should be easily visible and when you refit your cooler dont over-tighten it.

5. make sure u have win x64.

6. if that has not got you any ware its time to start taking things back to the vendor.

hope that helps mate

Hi,

yes i tried all the methods you mentioned above. When i swapped the modules in the slots around, the bios recognized the full 6GB, so did windows 7 but the new problem was that i was only able to use 2GB out the 6GB in windows. The ;ast thing for me to was to reinstall windows and hope that it was windows fault. When ever i install or reinstall windows on a hard drive, i always check the sata and power cable of the hard drive that windows in being installed on andalso for the optical drive.

When doing this inspection, i realised that a sata data cable for my 160GB hard drive was loose so i plugged it back and went back into windows to do some back up. Before i went ahead with the reinstall of windows, i checked to see if all memory was available to windows and it was so the issue for me was the loose Sata Data cable on the 160GB.

Have you had any luck after trying the methods you mentioned?
