Oh apple...

So I had been looking around for a bit, just for fun on the apple site.
I found this out...

Note: Those prices for example for the RAM are what they cost more than what's included. So 64GB RAM costs £1560 more than 12GB of RAM.

What do you think about this?

I had a look too on their site for a giggle when I was building my machine.

A similarly specd machine but with less hdd and no ssd and a 580 instead of a 680 was more than double what I paid for mine so more money for less oh and that would be in a shit case with a shit cooler so no overclocking. That was just for the box no peripherals.

It just makes me laugh. Especially that ram pic you posted hell you could build a system for the price of the additional ram alone.

Seems entirely reasonable to me.
Although I would much prefer them to put the price of the component up there and then put something like.

Mac in White with Apple badge on the front - £1850

They aren't alone though, Dell do the same but not quite to that extent.

But it's made by Apple, so it's worth the Premium. Everyone knows red cars go faster than any other color car, right? Well Apple RAM is faster than any other known to man.

Meanwhile, at Apple HQ.....

IT's been like this for ages how has everyone not seen this before? I'm sure you've been on the apple store before.

Also the Mac Pro hasn't been updated since 2010 so not much has probably happened to the price hence partly why the SSD is so high in price.

Most manufacturers do this especially with RAM. I always buy the least amount of RAM I can on my Dell servers, desktops, and laptops. I can buy memory at a fraction of the price they sell upgrades for. Did the same thing with my MBP. Think I paid $50 for 8GB of ram, whereas Apple was charging something like $200 for the same thing.

Crazy...

A certain (only) PC shop in the UK charges like £15 to change your RAM... (less than 1 minutes worth of work?)

Ya but who is worse those that charge £15 or those that do not learn to do it themselves. It is the same thing as people not changing their own cars oil. It takes 10 mins and you save more than half what a garage would charge you.

Most people need to get their car serviced every 12 months anyway whether they like it or not so they get it done there and then with them disposing of the oil...

This is ridiculous. Sometime I do this just for giggles. I go on PC retailers, and look up the prices of adding certain components to a pre-built PC. I can understand them needing to make a profit, but seriously? If you can put a nintendo 64 game pak in, you can install RAM.

anecdote: any of you guys remember that stupid only in BF3 contest? i got to admit that i ain't the biggest fan of that game and that i might be a little negative about it, but the pc they advertised as 10000€ was actually worth about 2500€ lol.

Do you have link for this as I'd be interested to read about that. I wonder how many people are actually daft enough to pay the extortionate prices they're asking:huh:

Since we are on the topic of ridiculousness I was out and about during the the build up to christmas doing some shopping etc. I came across an electronic store and something odd caught my eye. It was a motherboard and cpu combo.

The motherboard was an asus m5a78l with an amd bulldozer fx4 4100. It was on sale at the time reduced by 20% to a bargain of a price which was 480 euro.

Another one I was looking through play.com today and said I would see if they had the new corsair fans by any chance. They did and one fan is 55 euro.

One more for you. After a recent thread here I went to look for a price on the benq xl2410t and guess what I found.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Benq-XL2410...NS/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1357175001&sr=8-10

Yes that is near 600 pounds for the old style monitor.

It is not only limited to products. I was looking up a website looking to purchase an ssd. They wanted to charge 27 pounds for delivery of the ssd to Ireland from the uk. To put that in perspective I got my whole system shipped from the uk with dpd for less than 15 pounds.

I was also in gamestop yesterday just because I was killing time and was passing. I do not usually buy anything in there but said I would have a look. As I was browsing the pc games they had the original dawn of war game for 45 euro. They also had F1 2011 for 35 euro.

I mean where do these people get their prices from? Wouldn't it be better to get rid of the old stock at a slightly less profit and then get new stock in and shift that too. Instead of having old stock getting older and being surpassed by newer and better products. Especially in the electronics and games industry.

It is not only limited to games and electronics. I was in Hmv coming up to christmas and the first season of house was 60 euro and each other season was 45 euro. Family guy is also another bad example. You used to get 20 or so episodes in a season and it would range between 18 to 25 euro, now they are charging 30 euro for 11 episodes. I know times are tough for all industries but is it any wonder why so many people torrent stuff these days.

Last one I had to get a sensor adapter welded into my exhaust for my car a few weeks ago. One garage that specialized in exhausts wanted 150 euro for 10 mins work. I went with another garage who did the job for 60 quid. I would do it myself but I do not have a welder or know how to.

Seriously though where do these prices come from because they seriously make no sense to me.

Let's not stop at electronics and cars, look at something like food, accommodation, clothes. The fact is, they charge that much because they can. For something like food, you obviously need it, so you'll buy it no matter how much it costs, stuff like electronics, if you won't buy it, someone, who can afford it, will and as long as you don't overdo it, you'll still have profit, that's just how the world is.

This is why apples(fruit) are good for eating and apples (electronics) not so good for electrical items.
