OCZ Technology Announces Core Series SATA II 2.5 Solid State Drive

can I yell JIM too....the cost ... the size...the performance...they'e all there and making it very attractive....one point that I keep sticking on is life expectancy....if I was using xp then it wouln't be a problem...but vista is constantly accessing the hard drive...ive done a bit of stripping of the OS but it does seem to access the disk quite alot...(I do use it as a HTPC though)...even just as a OS and having all the swap files allocated to a standard hardrive, which in my eyes seems to make the performance redundant other then OS cold boot times....

I think what i'm getting at is that everything seems ok, and i'd be willing to make the jump, however I'm willing to hold out a bit longer and see whether other peoples experiences and knowledge, and maybe for the technology to move just a bit further ahead....I know I know I'm indecisive...but harddrive failiure is a pain at the end of the day...it definitely looks very promising though

I think I'm just one price-drop away from a purchase here...

I'm willing to spend 250 EUR for 128GB. That'll fit Windows and Games. Yay.

What's interesting about this new technology is that much work becomes obsolete. Filesystems, for example, are optimized to keep data localized so the disk-head has to move as little as possible. There are more examples how the structure of "classical" hard-drives affects computing. All those will be gone and maybe we'll find a new filesystem that's optimized for SSDs in the relatively new future (and the new Windows 7 perhaps?).

I'm eagerly looking forward into the future, some interesting things will happen, I guess.

I do have one of these on my desk at the moment. It was up for review next but I'm currently trying to source some Raptor drives to compare it with.

Still not cheap enough. At this price they will never take off. I'm not sure all my apps and os wouldn't fit on 32gb. I'd want all my games etc on the turbo drive too and keep all my media on the big cheap platter hdd.

Side note: ssd prices are set to drop in price by a rediculous amount in the near future, can't remember the specifics sorry.

A little bit on it here

I've had a look at SSD development from the mid 90's and found a really interesting article here..the part about all in one units with multiple internal raided ssd drives was interesting...talks alot about longevity and performance benefits...wonder if this is the route ocz have taken

Stealing my review? haha, I got a pair of raptors here :) but unfortunately for you they have to stay here
