Intel's are green because green stuff usually fits into the server/workstation market. Server boards are traditionally green and that hasn't changed over the years. I'm not sure why green, maybe it's to do with strength/bleaching colours I don't know. I know that tyres are black because it's the strongest colour and radiators are usually painted white (home radiators not PC) to reflect out the heat.
The problem is many of the items these companies sell as "gaming" or "enthusiast" products are simply server rebrands.
I remember once back in '99 my old boss said to me "If you want to see what's coming in enthusiast and gaming PCs just keep a close eye on the server market".
And he was spot on. Some time soon Intel will be releasing a rebadged 10 core Xeon with an unlocked multi whilst servers are now running probably twice that in core count. Couple more years we will have 20 core Xeons reboxed etc.
It's only really the GPU market that has changed, with AMD pulling out of the race for a while in the workstation market. I guess these companies have figured out that "gaming" customers have large wallets and are prepared to pay high prices for poorly made tacky rubbish.
