OCZ Reaper DDR3 1800 problem on ASUS PK5C

Ok - i went ahead and bought this RAM - and everything was fine...at first.

I've had to put my old ram back in windows became so unstable. All sorts of services and programs failing and crashing and 2 different blue screen crashes that force a restart (one is Memory Management the other Page error in a non paged area or something). This is with everything at stock and auto.

Please help as im at my wits end. I've tried setting the DRAM to 1333, 1066 etc but although it seems to delay it,the crashing still happening.

have you run mem test on the ram.

Another thing to try is to run 1 stick at a time and see how windows reacts.

All so with each single stick in make a USB bootable pen drive with mem test loaded and test each stick out. If you need help doing this just let us know and we can point you in the right direction.

if both sticks pass then you may be looking at you bios settings to see if it is you timings that are being adjusted in the ram. You need to set these manually to that the bios does not do them automatic and see how things go.

If how ever they do fail then you may need to RMA them back for replacement.

I ran memtests on the ram - and it failed every single test. So from what you say - its nothing to do with the bios settings and its the ram itself :( looks like i have to send the ram back to overclockers uk.

I haven't bothered checking individual sticks as im thinking i want it to be paired ram and i'd be better off returning both and getting a replacement. Thanks for the help!

If everything is on 'auto', it may be worth you checking your voltage settings.

Motherboards can often simply set the ram voltage too low, causing errors like you've described.

Yes everything is just running at stock levels with all options in the bios on auto. I tried setting the ram voltage 1.9 as stated on its packaging and sticks but i still had the problems. I might be wrong but surely it wouldn't be any good as two differnent memtest programs reported failure of every single test. Am i wrong? I assumed this meant i had dodgy ram to start with and should get a replacement.

Firstly, see if you can update your bios to the latest version

yh its likely to be faulty, but at least change around the slots you are using and run memtest 1 stick at a time; its always better to identify the problem rather than just leaving it and getting new ram straight away .... one thing as well, run memtest on your old ram to see if it passes all tests...

Right - i updated my bios to the very latest version and tried again with everything at stock level and auto on the bios. It was just the same - with windows bsod.

So then followed the advice of testing each stick and managed to lock it down to def one of the sticks is faulty. Doesn't matter which slot i use, windows crashes out and it fails every single memtest. The other stick however is fine - windows is stable and it passes every single test for hours using any of the 2 DDR3 slots on the mobo. So yes - you're right and thankyou :) At least now i know where the problem lies.

So that clears it up nicely i think? I have a dodgy mem stick from OCZ. Im slowly getting the hang of this logical problem solving :)

Just as side note - am i better off running from this single 2GB DDR3 stick or from my 4GB of DDR2?

Def 4gb of ddr2.....

yep, the place you bought it should take it back, otherwise rma straight too ocz and you should get a replacement prety soon

Ok - everything was going fine with some replacement DDR3 1800 and some instructions from OCZ to set my BIOS correctly. They recommended FSB set to 333 and mem freq set to 1066 only :( - unless i know what im doing and overclock the pc to work with 1333. They also said memory at 2T, memory timings of 8-8-8-27 and a voltage of 1.9. Seemed to be working great for hours then suddenly every time windows loads up it just freezes on the desktop. Then if i click anywhere at all the screen fades and windoes says explorer has stopped working, sends a report then fails trying to restart. Goes into safemode fine though.

When i boot up using my old DDR2 no problems what-so-ever. Pop the DDR3 back in and fix the BIOS settings - windoes freezes again. Any help or advice greatly appreciated guys - i'd love to get the RAM working.
