Oie PC brothers! RickmanSlickman here, and i thought i'd post my little adventure with my new RAM set upgraded.
So without further ado-
I seen a TTL video of some sexy blue Corsair RAM which got decent reviews from Tom 'The Light Smasher' Logan. It matched meh blue theme well, i was thinking about upgrading to more anyhow, so i had to get it for my rig. I had some unused best buy bucks and BB gift cards, and would recive an extra $10 cupon if i used their site to store option, so i figured wth i'll go with BestBuy. All was right with the world with my trustworthy Corsair branded RAM inbound to my local BB store. Expected in just 5 days! Muhahaha YEZ!
*dun dun* 2 weeks later...
Sick of waiting for BB to call me or send me an email notification, i call them to demand answers of my precious parcel! And behold, there at the store waiting for a pick to its new home was the RAM modules. I was little peeved at the situation from Best Buy, but it was soon washed away by the joy of my new hardwear. I raced to the store to pick 'em up. As the clerk walks out and hand the pack to me, a light from the heavens beamed down to illuminate the glorious Vengance box. Until..... I notice all the dings and smashed corners of the Corsair package.*sigh* But, i have faith in the sturdy constitution of the Corsair brand.
*dun dun* 40 mins later...
Powered down, discharged, on tile floor, Vengance seated, RAM is in, everything installed proper.
Power up, windows loads, everything seems fine. I startup Empire Total War to get in a bit of game time before work... Total System hang=
.
Off to work i went, in one of the best mods ever./sarcasm
*dun dun* the next day...
Did memtest, and found errors.
The insainly awesome techs at Corsair were ready to do an RMA, and help me any way they could. They advised it would be faster to just return it to BB, avoid shiping time, and just get an exchange from them. Ran back to BB, placed the order, and was hoping to only wait the 5 days this time.
*dun dun* about 2 weeks later...
About the same thing as the first time around, but this time i didnt wait the full 2 weeks. I wised up enough to call, and ask if they by chance got my order in. Sure enough, it was there. As with the last pack, i looked over the box and seen that its not only a few smashed corners i got! This time i was lucky enough to have the bonus prize of the cover flap torn half way down to. Even still, i will try this set... I was sick of waiting.
*dun dun* the next day
Installed everything right. 1st thing i did was run a memtest AND..... *heart sinks*
Redbars of doom.
After calling Corsair they seem a little baffled by my situation. The tech said "Its rare for even one set of bad RAM but it can happen, but not likely with 2?". Myself and others online know them as a reliable manufacture, so i had my doubts that the fault was with them. I told them i was worried that i may have gotten the same package (bestbuy later tells me they instantly send returns to back to manfctr, they dont hang around in the back room). Or that they may be getting dammaged durring shipping. I had two options, do an RMA, or go back through BB. I was sick of waiting so i went with BB. Only this time i shipped, directly to my house.
*dun dun* 4 days later
RAM arrives, and as carefull as i've ever been, i install it. Run memtest, and everything is cool blue baby.
Finally success at long last! I know now that my local BB should never be trusted with such awesomeness. If they so much as touch the epic WIN that is Corsair, they'll taint it with their evil essence of failsaucery.
So what have we learned from all this children? Bite the extra shipping cost, or forgo the $10 site to store bonus (if that applies), and have it shiped to your house.
I know in a review i shouldent really ask a qestion, but here it is none the less.
I did have one thing happen after i installed the new RAM, that i didnt quit understand. One of my games (Mount & Blade Warband) gave me an odd screen that i hadent ever seen (All clickable 'choice' text was missing excpt for one line, and that text was different color than normal). It could have been random, it is a buggy game, an i havent seen it since then. But after that windows did and auto update later on the same night, and when i went to shut down i got a BSOD 'Windows has shut down to prevent further damage...". It only lasted for about 12 seconds so i couldent read it. And it hasent happend again after the restart (about a week ago). Memetests still check ok.
Anyways, I hope this helps someone out there in the deep cosmose.
