OCCT cpu error - unexaplined.

Hey guys.

Today I ran a OCCT test and it stopped after 53 minutes without explaining too much.
any chance you could go through the pics and assist me as to why it stopped ? temps were OK, expect core #1, but OCCT always screws up the temps... sometimes it get stuck on a number for the entire test (is that normal ?)

You probably need a tad more vcore, but looking at your temps your hitting 80c so I think you need to back down your overclock...

Thanksd for the reply.
thats the core I mentioned in my post, where the temp keeps freezing.
When running prime 95 for ~4 hours, the temps are fine at ~70-75c degrees

Run OCCT and hardware monitor at the same time. Will tell you the temps for almost everything.

Yeah just sounds like your overclock isn't stable. Agree with above poster that a core dropping off is generally a voltage issue so bump it up a notch and see how that works for ya.

Start with the lower OCs before moving up to higher frequencies. Learn the cpu and become one with the cpu

Seems fine to me mate, try intel burn test 10 runs memory on maximum... If you pass that then your fine.. Keep core temp open so you can see you min and max temps during the test...

Different stress tests test in different ways. My 8150 would do Intel Burn Test all day long at 4.8 but collapse within 30 seconds on OCCT and P95. I stick with OCCT because I've found that anything that makes it 4-6 hours on that, has passed everything else.

I'm of the opinion that if you can't pass 4 hours on OCCT then your OC isn't stable.

Right but if it can't pass OCCT then it's not a stable overclock. It would mean the same thing if you could pass 10 hours of OCCT but couldn't pass IBT. If your CPU at stock clocks can pass OCCT, P95 and IBT, then your overclock should be able to as well if it's to be considered stable, at least IMO.

"Stable" is a relative term. We can never be 100% sure if it is stable. It can pass 10 different type of test but fail in only 1. Does that mean it's stable or is there a bug in the program? We can only get to a point where we can say 95% sure it is, not bad but we can only conclude from what the test have shown.

I agree with some of the people above on OCCT being the hardest on Ivy chips. AVX support does change it up quite a bit.

For the most part I agree with you. I don't think you should run 7 day long Prime95 sessions. However, if you cant even pass 1 hour of OCCT, youre not stable. You make it thru 4-6 hours or 10-12 hours of P95 and 20 runs of IBT, Id consider that stable.

I consider 8hrs runs stable. I've had a failure at 6hrs 30mins before

Changed it up a bit and hit 10hrs stable.
Always using OCCT by the way

Yeah, Id definitely call that stable too then. The OCCT developers recommend 3 hours so I always do 4-6 for mine but I also do a run of IBT. If I cant pass 4-6 of OCCT and 20 runs of IBT, I keep working.

Which sucks because when I got 4.8 to do 20 runs of IBT I was all like :rock:

But then when I had to drop down to 4.5 to get passed OCCT I was like :cussing:

Try a IBT or Prime95(i hate this one) and see if you can hit 20hrs/6-8hrs. I would then consider this stable.

Try IBT and if you can get thru 20 runs on very high spec, you have my blessing for a stable overclock. :lol:

This thread got me fired up to try again so Ive spent the last couple hours digging around the BIOS and Im currently on 27 minutes of OCCT at 4.615! Temps are holding at 59C. By George I think I might have finally cracked the 4.6 barrier cause I never made it passed 10 minutes at 4.6 before.

Nevermind. 41 minutes and it crashes. Gawdamighty! Guess its 4.5 for life. :banghead:
