OC3D Ryzen 3rd Gen Thread

Heya guys,

So since the launch of Ryzen’s 3rd generation of CPUs are coming closer, I’d thought an dedicated thread about it would be nice. Where we for example could discuss which CPU we are perhaps considering getting and which motherboard to go along with it (even though it may not be all that official yet around everything).

Personally I’m alming for the 3700X and either an ASUS ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Hero or the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Xtreme. Although, if going by recent ”leaked” rumors, the latter looks like going to cost a fortune.

Although I do like that motherboard basically uses it’s entire armour as the chipsets heatsink, rather than having an active fan, such as basically every other manufacturer does. But have some concerns that it might be a bit loud and/or will fail.

So what are your guys thoughts on my concerns and what are your future upgrade plans with Ryzen 3? :)

Regards,
Dawelio

I'm going with either a 3700X or 3800X along with the Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Impact. I'll also pick up a 1TB M.2 drive. 16GB of RAM, not sure on really what to get here. I'll re-use my case and graphics card. It's been about 4 years now since my last upgrade so I'm pretty excited and after being on Intel for years I'm looking forward to going back to AMD.

Sounds like a really nice build you’ve got planned there, a thought though... What cooler for that CPU are you planning on using?

Damn sounds solid hmmblah. I would also reuse that case as well. You're lucky to have that! :D

I'm still gutted CaseLabs went under. :(

I'll re-use my H105 for now. When I can upgrade the graphics card though I hope to go back to custom watercooling and cool both the graphics card and CPU.

I'm gonna be picking up the Crosshair VIII Hero, I was thinking about getting the Formula but at £600 it would be more than a little stupid considering I'd be paying £300 extra for waterblocks I'd never use and apart from the waterblocks and a little RGB here and there the boards are identical.

I'll be using my 2700X in it until the 3950X releases.

I am too honestly. I wanted their itx stuff but once I found they were going under basically they were out of stock on everything

Mine 4790K, and Z97 Deluxe have served me well. I have a massive itch to upgrade, and i do feel lack of performance.

It all depends on performance results. Mainly in Music production, and gaming. So if AMD proves worthy i will go for:

ASUS CROSSHAIR VIII HERO
G.Skill F4-3733C17Q-32GTZSW
AMD 3800X, or 3900X
1TB PCI-E Gen 4 NVME

if it is not worthy Intel still rocks in my use case so it will be:

ASUS MAXIMUS XI APEX
Intel Core i9-9900K or KS
G.Skill 4000C19D-32GTZR
1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus

RAM may vary because of availability in my country, and ordering online is straight robbery from state taxes. But that is my general thought process.

I don't like buying piece by piece, and other components also need upgrade (case, keyboard, mouse, maybe monitor) so sometime in September/October i hope to refresh my colors. Either in blue or red.

Currently thinking a
3800X,
ASUS Crosshair or Gigabyte Xtreme,
Re-use my 3200mhz CAS 14 Ram
2TB Samsung 970 EVO plus
Re-use fractal S2
Re-use RTX 2080
Re-use my 760w corsair PSU or might upgrade to a seasonic titanium
