ASUS P6T DELUXE X58 Motherboard Preview

Ahem question time.

As Im presuming theres a cpu lying about for this board and some ram and that you might have got it up and running,

How hot does that northbridge get.

Oh and the vdimm voltage and cpu voltage thing any clue as to if there linked. :yumyum:

If I was looking to get this mobo, I would have wished they`d not put those caps so close to the zif/socket. Unless they`re shorter than the socket, but it doesn`t look like it.

DDR3 I have at home `says` 1.9v on it, even though CPUz reads the spd as 1.5v for all the presets. Running it 1.5 on the 775 leads to issues I think and is a mis-reading by CPUz (but we`re testing some stuff regarding that atm).

The padded i/o plates wreak of cheapness imo, I don`t like them myself, even tho it has little bearing on the pc as a whole (I have tried looking under them to see if they`ll come off :p). Those SATA+Power cables are shocking - however I feel they`d be excellent if they instead made them eSATA + a usb cable for power ;) That`d be nice.

It`s interesting to have an onboard spdif header and a hole next to the spdif output for the cable to run back into the pc for the hmdi->audio. And only 1 optical which I think is input. Like the ALC889a I suppose.

Interesting, best of luck with that one. I`ll look out for the review.

i have one gripe..

the order on the slots should have been pcie 1x, pcie 16x, pci, pcie 16x, pcie 1x. the gap is a little too long gonna have to get special crossfire or sli bridges.

why are pci slots still showing up on new mobos anyway? Everything has gone pcie for the most part..

Dude, you think they would space it out like that without giving you a proper length bridge? :rollingla

Lots of people like having two slots in between as it allows more room for graphics cards to breathe. As for why there are PCI slots, say you have a nice X-Fi Elite PCI card you paid over $200 for... wouldn't you want to be able to use it?

So disappointed that there is no CPU to test it on.

Patience fellow. Intel would rip us limb from limb if we published anything like that early :)

Excellent preview Jimbo, tis a really nice looking motherboard with plenty of features. I'm really getting excited about Nehalem now.

I wouldn't be too excited bud. The price is too high if you ask me, and as for the estimated pricing, they where completely off. People estimated the CPUs to be around $280 for the cheapest, which is around £150 (not sure on the currency exchange at the moment) and it is infact £250 here for the cheapest, although I have a strange feeling it is only £150 over in the USA.. GRR!

Also, yes the motherboard is sweet with all those features etc, but is it really worth that amount of money to you? The RAM is also just OTT, being at around £80 a stick.. I think they are really taking the P**S with that one to be quite honest.

Not in a ranting mood, don't get me wrong I just think that the pricing is a bit high. Yeah the Quads were very high to start out with but look how low they've sunk? I expect pretty much the same with these to be honest.. in 6 months time they *should* be a more affordable price for someone like me LOL :D

80 quid a stick.....where are you shopping...PCWorld :D...DDR3 has taken a pounding on price...and with the entry level nehalem being (rumoured) only $265 (probably see it for around the £200 mark in the UK) then with the prerelease benchies that we've seen it won't be that more expensive then what you would pay for a high end spec at the moment...but at the performance increase...slaaaaarrrghghghghghgh....sorry the drool was affecting my typing...i'll stop ranting...lets just wait for real world bencies and real world pricing....

Plus unlike some websites, we don't kiss and tell...early :)

No mate... Who shops there :nono: Was looking at the RAM which is specially for the Nehalem (has to be below 1.65v otherwise you will damage your CPU permantly due to the onboard memory controller in there I believe) which was from OCUK, yes they like to rip it being the first to have the stuff.. but it is going to be around that price to begin.

I'm not only saying that.. it's from prices I'VE seen! I wouldn't be posting **** on here, why lie? I am here to help.. not stur up!

Overclockers UK had X58 boards and Core i7's up for like an hour a few weeks ago, I think it came to about £200 for 6Gb of fast RAM, £220 or something for this motherboard and about £250 for the 2.66Ghz-ish CPU. It is not THAT expensive, when some people would pay £1000 for a QX9770 which the entry level i7 may top. Anywho cool preview, not long now :D Jim do you actually have a Core i7 to test his bad boy out when the NDA comes off? (evil plans to rob Jim if he does :p)

I`d like to drop in a serious question as to what in the name of sanity made them force the DDR3 to be under 1.65v ?

There is no reason why they did that other than making u buy new memory from what I can see. If it were DDR4/5 I could understand their methods, but to force the tie-in so that u can`t use old memory is just vindictive and money gathering.

Fair enough...look at this DDR3...right granted its crap low level stuff...but the more its manufactured the cheaper the price...granted 1600 is still around the 65 quid mark...but prices are coming down fast....in the past 3 weeks we've seen 4 price drops on DDR2 and DDR3....so by the time we have juicy nehalem CPU's and decent mobo's available I can't honestly see the price being that much different...at the end of the day we wouldn't be enthusiasts if we weren't willing to fork out that little extra...

but then sometimes I do feel like saying "sod it i'm off to buy an ALDI special" :D ....

LOL I suppose so mate. The thing is though that the RAM has to be below 1.65v, as you can see in that picture and states it in other sources as well. The DDR3 RAM that I know, is mainly 1.75v or more.. so how is this going to affect our Nehalems (not that I'm getting one :p)

check the link above...the budget ddr3 at 1066 at microdirect is 1.5v....and £ 20 per 1 gb strip......I know what you mean but it seems that when were on the cusp of new tech coming out people start complaining about the price.....new tech always is the same or more then the existing tech...its a fact of life...if someone said heres some brand new benchmark breaking tech...and u can have the whole system for £20 then most would say "its **** cos it costs nowt" (alright that maybe a mass exagertion :D)......the first run of any new tech is gonna cost more to try and recoup as much development costs as they can...because if that tech doesnt take off its there arses on the line...take hddvd for example...:D

and at the end of the day people can ***** about the price but heres a novel concept...you don't like the price....don't buy it....i'm sure u can still run everything u have on your current system fine :D...do you really need the upgrade ...
