OC3D Fractal Design Case Club

speaking for the arc midi (R4 is the slient clone) unless you try to jamb the 24-pin
wrong-wise they will dislodge, but any case rubber will. but it does take a beastly
force to make 'em go "pop".

My hackintosh/win 7 arc midi.

This is my effort. As you can see its had some attention. RX 360 rad in the top.
EX 240 in the front. 5 inch bays have been dremeled away to about a third left - enough to fit in a fan controller and temp display.
I am replacing this case though, going full tower.
As you can see its in the process of being stripped out. hope you enjoy anyway.

That will do. Its going into retirement. I may sand it all down and repaint it to make a home server. But its served me well.

I'm sure this must've been answered in many reviews, but for anyone that has the R4, what do you think of the cable management gromits? Do they give way easily like the R3?

I personally like the new gromits better than the old ones from the R3. They dont give way so easily and they stay put on their spot. :)

My old Arc Midi from 2 years ago. I still have the case but I don't use it anymore. Anyway, thought I'd share the couple of pics I found:

Fractal Desing Arc Midi V2 gets GOLD!

and OC3DTV has spoken.
"...its an OC3D GOLD award winning case!"
"...no doubt about it!"

for minimal amount of hard earned cash a case that can grow into any form of
use. air-cooling, water-cooling, CPU h20, CPU/GPU h2o, what else do you
need other than help fitting it all there?
easy-peasey. start with air-cooling and progress into water-cooling. easy growth
and not much case hacking to get it in there.

here is the review posted on YT: Fractal Design Arc Midi V2 Review

so what are the major differences between this and the original. what i noticed:

2 USB 3.0 instead of 2 USB 2.0 and 1 3.0 (which i prefer to have 3 total)
removable and arrangeable HDD trays
removable front filter
window side panel (which you can get and put on the original anyways)

are they the same size? is there more room inside? or more room behind it for cables?

still a fantastic case. so cheap. soo good. both this and the original. i love mine!

from comparo on the released info..
same size L x H X W.
uses the same midi-r4 side-panel, just not dampened. but has smoked plexi.

no FD logo on the front bezel, moved to the grille area.

not really mentioned, but there is SSD mounting on the rear of mobo tray.

not sure, but kinda like the XL 2 i believe the lower HDD cage can be relocated,
further back (closer to PSU)?
HDD cage is now 3+5 from the older 4+4 arrangement.

for fans i love the bolt-in idea for the front panel, but mounting a radiator to it,
im kinda emmmmm-errrrr...
wouldnt have been easier to rig the chassis and make the front panel just a bezel
to look good and look pretty, instead of making it a functional part?

im currently hacking two V1 bezels for a project, trying to cipher i think waht Tom
was looking for in a front rad location.. been working on it for months..

Still debating on whether or not to buy the side window panel for $33 or make one myself..

:headscratch:

attempt the DIY side window.. make it yours.. at least you made an attempt
on something that is pretty easy when you do enough of them.

if it somehow gets botched.. hello new midi side panel..

i like it alot as well, but using a mATX motherboard in an ATX case leaves alot of
blankness. plans for the future are?

Well, there isnt so much blankness in my opinion.
I might get a second card or a sound card, only have one PCI-E slot left :/
Thinking of maybe doing a full watercooling system, but they dont make chipset waterblocks for the GENE IV.
