OC3D Exclusive: OCZ prepares Neural Impulse Actuator for shipping next week

It has 8gigs of OCZ HPC ram,

......

32bit sux in general, and I know I will only have use of 2.5gb of Ram... but so what?

listen... I am a hardware god

I'm speechless.... Actually speechless

Can we try avoid turning this thread into an argument over operating systems please. We have masses of threads existing on that already.

I'm sure alternative drivers will be developed shortly, the main priority has been getting it released with software that works.

I agree completely, its a non issue, its not going to be resolved by anyone other then OCZ, and that will come in time, its just annoying, was quite impressed though with how it worked, and am looking forward to testing it fully in the near future. Lots of settings, although the brainfingers section did quite baffle me, especially when I answered the phone and was watching my neural activity max out, I'm surely not that stressed :D

@llwyd: I feel as though my statement was taken out of context... I have picture proof (on OCN) of my [H]Gawd status. My DFI-P35-T2R died... so I bought a cheapo P35 and soldered a new NB on... the mobo worked for a while... but overvolting is a habit worse than heroin. OK? I think I can say that.

All I meant to communicate was that I am rather skilled when it comes to hardware, but software skill evades me for the most part.

@Jaster: virtual pc can fix many things. If you have 8 gigs of ram... why not just emulate a 32bit XP/2000 pc, give it 2gigs of ram, and then port the input through that medium? This is not a true/real/good/acceptable fix, but it should work.

Virtual Pc Can and it would probably work, however then running games through an already loaded system is a bit pointless...crysis doesnt look too hot on a 42" HD TV at 800x600 lol...look im happy to have played with it and been the first to give it a go...its not about making it work exile...its more about OCZ's obvious failings to there customers...this is in its infancy...and i got the feeling after using it that there are bigger and better to come...the emotiv does look impressive as well....I got a feeling its gonna be an interesting year in BCI's

Well, 200 posts in... ;)

I think most anticipated products get delayed by a long time eh.

Virtual pc would eat too much cpu to be practical. besides the ram overhead, running a second os... shrug.

Emotiv is being developed in australia which is cool, they are testing in Melbourne at the moment and are planning to release between september - october.

I think the overall census on this snipes is that its going to take a while to atune yourself to it...hence the weekly log by OC3D...its gonna be months before we see users get good enough and learn and unlearn habbits...Jim said something about getting a users thread up so we can share the knowledge...|after playing with the software I can see people either taking to it straight away, perservering with it, or giving up after a week...but the more NIA users who join the forum and participate the better idea of where this technology could lead us and good guidance and communication and shared experience will push the technology forward...I think the NIA is a massive achievement but I think real aplication of this will be slow..and albeit a bit painful...

could you spare us the honest opinion and just give us a cold, hard, flowery review full of metaphors and explosive hyperbolic statements?

and it was exactly that attitude as to why I didnt offer you the spare one and it went to another member...if you were just that bit nicer exile youmight find people actually listen to what you have to say...

Listen, we are all going to have to wait. You want me to act (type?) more mature? Sure.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with brevity, or dry humor for that matter.

But... see as those in the UK are the cultural experts on dry humor (humour?) I must be doing it wrong.

I was not insulting him, I was encouraging him the same way you tell someone "If you jump off that bridge... it may hurt when you land." Over on NBR Forums, everyone wanted to know about the Alienware m15x when it came out, as do people wish to know about this item.

Almost every person on NBR who got an m15x posted a review with pics, and I hope that the same would happen here for this device. Sorry if I come off as arrogant, I only mean to establish myself as "slightly more knowledgeable than average" (8 of 10 so to speak), and anyone on a forum at least gets a 5 in computer use...

Sorry Jaster,

Sorry if my statement was insulting Snipes.

Even if boring... hyper mature tone starts now.

I understand what you mean Jaster. I was only planning on giving first impressions / who I think the device may appeal to specifically. I know there are allot of people who are still on the fence about this device and as the price is slowly creeping up (such as on ebuyer) I thought that any advice before people start paying for orders may be beneficial. I am also a keep programmer/gamer and I believe that I could genuinely help to experiment with the potential of this device. Understand that I know how "in the know" you are in regards to this device and I would never try to dictate whether or not to but buy it. As for exile, I am fully fluent in the language of dry humour, but there is a fine line between humour and offence, im not offended but I was only offering to help. If you would genuinely like a review on the device I would be happy as I’m sure any other people who are fortunate enough to have one would. Sorry for the long message. If anyone does have any questions I will be happy to help if I can! :-)

no snipe your bob on...what my main fears is a load of people expecting to whack it on there bonce and expect miracles...thats why i mentioned the NIA user forum Jim was proposing...

Exile...I'm very fluent in dry humour but as snipe said theres a very fine line....I'd rather you go to the extreme and say "give us a thumbs up or down" at least i'd get the comedic tone...Ive got a feeling you probably type like you talk...which is no way an insult...but sometimes can be misconstrude....we as humans sometimes forget how subtle body language can change somethings meaning (and probably the NIA's readout)...and I take no offence...and yes I might over explain but i'd rather people understand my meaning even if it does whinge on a bit...

anyway lets forget this and concentrate on the product....im really interested in quoc's reaction...he's the person on this forum I feel will benefit it most...hence why i pulled a few strings at work to get him one asap...

hopefully he should have it by wednesday at the latest...so should see how it will benefit someone less abled then ourselves...

and by the way if anyone does want a look at the software only..I still have it here onmy hard drive...obviously useless without the hardware...but if anyone wants it just pmme...it is 65mb BTW ... might put a private torrent and tracker up for it...not sure on the legal ramifications though..

I think there's a lot misinformed consumers out there who will be disappointed. Many people (from message boards and article comments that I have read) still have the impression that the NIA is able to read their minds. For instance, they can just think "shoot" to fire a weapon, think "left" to strafe left, "hungry" and the NIA will cook you a meal.

I'm not sure who should be blamed for this, OCZ marketing team or the press. The information released last week about the NIA should have been out along with the press release on March 3rd. OCZ should not have relied on the press to describe their product to consumers. Many sites (Ebuyer, Slashdot) are still referring to this as "OCZ brain mouse"

I was hoping it comes today but doesn't look like it, hopefully Monday. I wouldn't mind getting the software early and read through the manual but without OCZ's permission, I think it's illegal hehe

Heh, someone needs to get the brainfingers SDK... my email was not replied to...

Think of what an NIA Chat interface would be like... subtle thinks changing the way people react, weaving enough fine lines to make a suit from...

@Jaster - perceptive

Very cool exiled. I've been doing database stuff for years, and only just starting to do desktop stuff. So I think the sdk would be out of my reach. But any kind of interaction doesn't have enough inputs to type or directly do detailed responses easily. It would though, be enough to map sliders to "happy/sad", so for this to go with a 3d avatar program like imvu, would be awesome.

I think your need to establish yourself as an "8", and set everyone you don't know as an "5" is something very ego based.

Agreed, drop it.

I guess the next oc3d worklog will come out over the weekend.

@roach LOL

@exile roach has a point...

lets all play nice guys ... at the end of the day no matter how knowleadgeable you think you are someones always gonna know more...its the ability to share that knowledge a better person...and I think everyone has something to offer here :D...
