The binary effect is the unofficial technical term referring to the discrepancy between different reported sizes for computer hard drives and other storage media. This happens because drive manufacturers measure a gigabyte as 1,000,000,000 (1 billion) bytes, while a computer measures a gigabyte as 1,073,741,824 bytes. For example, the Western Digital 500 GB SE16 has an exact size of 500,105,216,000 bytes. Although this is 500 gigabytes, in binary gigabytes this is only 465 gigabytes. This does not apply to CD-ROM media. It does, however, apply to DVD-ROM media. It also applies to hard drives, Zip disks, floppy disks, and nearly all types of flash memory.

As with many things on wiki, this isn't actually correct. In so much as it's explanation to how it ends as 465g. For many OSes this is because of the filesystem it's formatted to.

If u left the drive raw, or used some other formats, it would be alot bigger.

As to manufacturers being permitted to re-write the rules for kb, mb, gb, tb - yes it's a sad fact that they have been able to. For manufacturer reasons, they're now meant to be kib, mib, gib, tib - but afaic they can shove that up their arses.

I got out of bed to see if I had one, not even drawn yet!

..oh well, back to bed, and yes, its 11:55am here :D

OK guys, this one may take a little longer to draw as Icy Box want to do it personally. Keep refreshing tho and I'll have the winner for you ASAP

Luckily I got all day off to refresh :)

A really awesome prize, saves a lot of people trouble, such external solutions.

Has the models survived the dabauchery that occured when passed from one from the editorial team to the other?

No I'm afraid she imploded on herself.

Last time I imploded, I just got a message saying my lifetime warrantee was now invalid and to have a nice day...no unexpected gender change, just a big mess on the carpet

My F5 has worn out now... you owe me a keyboard! I will settle for this though :p

(Kidding, my F5 is still in working order, you can sleep easily at night now)

You could just take the key off and use a pencil to push the pad down...

or rewire the keyboard so that the F5 key was something useless like F7...

This is a good call to make you all tell me the uses of the F7 key.
