Nvidia postpones Titan Z, was the R9 295X2 too powerful?

What gets me is that if they knew it had heat issues why bloody release/announce it in the first place!?! They know 3rd parties are going to want to stick their own coolers on it's inevitable, seriously it's not like nVidia are new to this game. AMD cocked it up with the reference R9 290x I never thought nVidia would especially with a flagship model.

I think NVidia were counting on AMD messing up even more as two Hawaii chips are even more difficult to keep cool on air, unfortunately AMD did not follow the plan and came up with that AIO cooler that at least allows the 295X2 to run well at stock.

Nvidia wont let 3rd parties put their coolers on anything above a 780Ti. That's why there are no non ref Titans. Gigabyte found a way around that though and have a version of the Titan Black that still has the stock cooler but they also put their Windforce x3 cooler in the box so people can fit it themselves.

There was a rumour a couple of days before the announcement of the Titan Z being delayed that Inno3D were doing the same thing as Giga but with the Titan Z, see my post above for pics.

It is stupid of Nvidia not letting them do it though, as I said in a previous post they wouldn't be in this situation now and the cards would be cooler and quieter than Nvidia could ever hope for on the stock cooler. :)

NVIDIA is really pushing the boundary on acceptable pricing lately.

Anyone who has the money and inclination to buy this card would be aware that the next architecture is coming out soon and that two GTX 780 Ti's or Titan Blacks would outperform this for much less money and look better in the computer while doing so.

The $3000 is a bad joke as-well. You can get three GTX 780 Ti's for that and still have money left over for beer.

It's long overdue that AMD has the edge on something again and in this case it's well deserved. From what I've seen so far the 295x is a very well build, cool running card for the uber high-end market. It's good to see that they managed to throw NVidia a curve for once - I feel they were getting a bit too overconfident lately.

From what I've read over the weekend the delay is simply all down to incomplete drivers. Also the shear number of people wanting one for the epeen value ...douches.. for $3000 I'm pretty sure anyone could build a 4770K 4k monster. I still struggle to see this cards place, it's a fine workstation card for games devs for sure but isn't that why we have the Tesla, Quadro & Firepros...

Tesla, Quadro & Firepros cannot properly run games. The Titan cards are supposed to be used in a rig used both as a gamestation and a workstation.
