Nvidia or ATI

Hi guys,

I'll change the configuration of my PC this month and I can only make my choice on a graphics card.

I looked again a few videos of Tom to me a great help but does not go a preference I do not know what to do.

I play a few games, mainly WoW, BF3 and soon SWTOR. I have a 24 inch screen with a definition of 1920/1200. My financial limit is 700 euros or about 600 GBP.

I hesitate between a Nvidia GTX 590 or ATI 6990 or why not SLI. I have a 850W power supply Corsair modular, which will be sufficient.

Could you tell me your opinion to help me make a choice between the two dual-processor graphics cards or SLI.

Thank you in advance.

I would get a 590, a Gigabyte 580 Soc or maybe two 570's in sli

buy one lightning 580 now and buy another later

sli lightnings are amazing

heres where I'd go I'm not a fan of the 590's so I'd stay clear of them I'd go 580 and sli later or dual 570's now. performance wise 2 580 is da dawgs danglies but sli 570's aint nuttin to sneeze at either. for smooth game play either way would be great. Benching 580's is it. Since we dont play benchmarks lol to stay in ur current budget sli 570's. and if you wait for the 600 series of cards then you may be waiting long time.

I'd hang in there for a little while, see how the 7000 series ATI cards perform.

This ^^^^

The first lot of the 7xxx series are out in January and there should be reviews for them this month. Pointless buying a GPU now when there is a next gen release around the corner, might as well wait and see how they perform.

Man y'all must really be gluttons for punishment. Why wait for AMD's Another Major Disappointment offering??? When Nvidia already delivers all the performance you'll need for gaming today and into tomorrow. Plus we all know when the 7000 series bombs AMD will just say we need to make a windows 7 optimization patch, just like they tried with BD.

AMD GPUs aren't the same as AMD CPUs

Nvidia may be in the lead now but before the Nvidia 5 series it was AMD for a good two years and there isn't a huge difference between them now. Low to mid range AMD have the edge and mid to high Nvidia have the edge but there isn't much in it.

We don't know how the 7xxx series will perform yet and it is a whole new architecture, Nvidia have had manufacturing delays with their 28nm GPUs and thats why they have a later release schedule for their 6xx series cards, it doesn't have anything with them taking the time to perfect or anything.

I don't mind what manufacturers name is on my GPU I just go for the best bang for buck at the time of buying and only time will tell if that turns out to be Nvidia or AMD but either way they both stand as good of chance as each other.

hmmm they both process data and they both have the Same manufacturer

True but AMD used to be ATI don't forget, they dropped the ATI branding and stuck with AMD for both CPU and GPU.

It was a mistake if you ask me because people see AMD and think because they make not so good CPUs that their GPUs are the same, but it just isn't true.

I'm sure they make decent cards they must or they wouldn't still be around. Just with all their recent disappointments I feel waiting on them is taking 2 steps back when there are good viable options now. My main reason for my Nvidia fanism is simply what they bring to the table currently physics without having to add another card. Lower heat output and quieter operation.

hell I'm wearing an old ATI t-shirt atm lol back from the old X800XTPE days and AGP

Thank you for your participation and advice.

I knew that AMD would soon release new graphics cards but I read somewhere that this will be the base models that would be available. I inquired about the availability of nvidia card and I also read that the first models are not the fastest. This is what took me a contat ask your advice on graphics cards available now. I'm normally loyal to Nvidia, i have never owned an ATI graphics card but I am curious enough to try once or twice.

From what you say a couple of GTX 580 seems to be extraordinary. I could certainly find the budget to make the purchase.

Feel free to tell me if I was wrong about the performance would have the new models that should be available in January because it actually will be more interesting to know how they behave before setting my choice.

thank you again, and sorry for my modest practice your language.

580s are great and two in SLI will outperform anything else at the moment, if you want to go ahead and buy them I don't blame you.

Personally though I would wait and see what the AMD 7xxx series is like seen as the wait is only a few weeks and reviews should be coming in the next few weeks, AMD are making an official announcement on Monday about the details and pricing of the 7xxx series so we will know more by Tuesday next week.

I will follow your advice.

I found some information on the 7XXX series to come. It will be particularly effective and relatively expensive. This will come from the use of a new type of RAM provided by Rambus and the poor performance of the manufacturer TSMC. I saw that the model will be the most efficient marketed at a price of 549$.

Of course this information is not official and may be totally wrong.

There were rumors that the new cards would use XDR2 memory instead of GDDR5 which would of have been more expensive but now they will be using GDDR5. TSMC, the company that makes the GPUs has put prices up, so the new cards will be slightly more than usual anyway.

There has been no 100% legit prices released yet but the rumors are the 7950 will be $349 but that is just rumors and no one knows for certain.

Those prices seem a bit too high to me, Fudzilla isn't the best place to get news from though, they are unreliable and make things up sometimes.

If it appears on Bit tech or Anandtech then it's most likely true but I wouldn't trust what is posted on Fudzilla unless it has been confirmed elsewhere.

EDIT: just noticed that article is from the 2/12 AMD hasn't officially announced prices yet, they are supposed to be doing that today.

I completely agree with your opinion that is why i said this in a previous post:
