Nvidia GTX980Ti Review

One thing that I've heard is that they wanted to have a lot of room between GPUs when they're used in SLI. Backplates installed reduce airflow, but I personally don't think it would be too restrictive.

The most popular SLI config is 2 way which means you can always have at least 1 space between your cards for airflow.

There'll be a logical reason behind it I suppose but the airflow one surely can't be it.

Wait to see what AMD has in their pocket.

AMD will need to be at least 50% faster than the 290X to be competitive with the 980 Ti and Titan X and then there's the pricing which they badly need to be competitive on especially considering the 980 *non Ti* price drop.

Can anyone convince me not to buy two of these to run them in SLI? ^_^

Well wait for AMD and the Aftermarket 980ti's to drop first. The most informed decision is the best imho.\

They need more than just the speed, a lot of people love the power requirements to... I think one thing will be in AMD's court is the size, with HBM we have a lot of talk about shorter cards.

The length of current GPUs doesn't bother me at all. The overly fat 3-slot cards are harder to fit than long ones are.

Watching the video now.. lmao with all those "other teams cards in the future" hints:p

Well power requirements/length(can't believe that was made into an argument lol) to me mean nothing. Honestly most people have more than enough for two cards.. who cares about power requirements when you're already ahead of the amount neeed? Ya the bill goes up.. hardly at all though. I just want price/perfomance and AMD have that advantage. I can get 290x's as cheaper as 970's. Also says a lot about how many people aren't buying AMD.. which is a shame because we need them in the Market. People keep saying we need them in the market but continue to buy Nvidia.. makes no sense to me.

Tom for the love of all things holy, It's TEE EYE, Not tie -

TEE

EYE

This is what everyone including the people who make the cards call it ^_^

Even Tom Petersen, The Director of Technical Marketing with NVIDIA, Corrected a fan about it at one of the last Nvidia GeForce Gaming Expos when the 780 Ti was fairly new.

The YouTube comments sections goes nuts about the mispronunciation ^_^

I agree we need AMD in the market and I will continue to purchase from AMD for as long as I can.

I have friends that need the smallest PC they can to keep the wife happy. She does not want a Standard sized case in the room, they see it as a eye soar. For you and I it makes no difference about size or how much power it requires. But as I believe you said in another thread that not everyone makes as much of a informed decision these days. They purchase what the graphs tell them and if the graph says it uses 50 watts less power then to some that plays a part in the purchase they make. Is it ridiculous that we even have some people that look so heavily on these 2 things, yes I think so but that is where some of the market is. If AMD can pull more orders with less power requirements and have it be smaller then great. But to me it will not carry any weight in my decision on what I purchase.

I look at price/performance and do not always make my choice based of what the best price/performance card is. Because I am an enthusiast I will spend more on the 390 even if it is in the middle of the road when it comes to price/performance.

I know I've asked this before, but what is TDP and what does it stand for really?... the amount of power it draws or what?...
And according to that graph, in comparison to the 980's 165W, is 250W a lot?...

Many of you will call me dumb etc for asking this and a bit off topic (sorry about that), but is 6GB of VRam enough for 1440p on High in games such as Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Crysis 3, CS:GO, COD:AW?...

IF it is, and 12GB on the Titan X isn't needed, then I have found my next GPU for sure :)

6GB is more than enough for 1440P at the moment.

TDP stands for Thermal Design Power, Here's a video explaining it -

Thermal Design Power (TDP) is a measurement of how much power a chip can produce or a heatsink dissipate. A chip/card that is going to generate 250 watts of heat will need a heatsink/spreader that will dissipate 250 watts of heat potentially. Every single watt equals a certain amount of heat, this also depends on the environment (temperature of your room) you are in.

IMO the 6GB will be enough. But wait till the AMD 390 card is released, the leaks have said as much as 8 GB on the water cooled version.

Thanks guys for the respective information on both counts, much appreciated! :)

And cool... although, will 6GB still be enough to have that with an external 22" 1920x1080, that only has a few smaller programs on it?... not any demanding game or such?... Does it really take any usage of the VRam though?...

Back on topic though... and to give you an answer there magicc8ball, I will go for the 980Ti, as even though the 390X might get 8GB, I don't want nor like water cooled cards. I want air cooled ones... the only time I want to go water cooled on the GPU, is if I have a custom loop, and not a single radiator from the graphics card, such as the 295X2.

I just don't want so much radiators nor does it look particularly appealing to me :)

£549... Give AMD a break already :p

That's one epic GPU, especially for that price. I hope AMD's Fiji (or Fury) will be able to compete and won't be too expensive.

Well I will be going crazy and splashing out on 2 of these. As soon as they are available, they will be mine!

Anyone want to buy two 780 reference cards with Waterblocks? ;)

But I feel I may be at me limit with the PSU, considering ill be overclocking and my 4790k is already at 4.7ghz. I might need more than a 850W psu right?

You should still be fine. Those 780's you might be able to stretch them out till the next GEN N cards. Leaks say they will have HBM on them :).

My last build i did a custom loop and I love it so either way is good for me but I sit back and hope they get an air cooled 8GB card, offer both if they can that would be ideal right?

Doubtful on the bigger PSU. Look at the review bud, Tom was using the new 2011 and the highest pull was 480 roughly. If I remember correctly the recommended specs for a single 780 was 600 watts and with 2 well the recommended would be around 850. Measure it now and buy your new cards and measure it again I bet you are a bit lower on overall pc usage.

Its a nice card but I'll still wait for AMD. Although it does seem that Nvidia have pulled out all the stops in order to stop AMD stealing their fire.

Not sure what you mean there dude, think you're either confusing me with someone else or that you just did a typo on "780's" instead of "980's" or "980Ti's"... as I don't have either of them, I have an 6950 :p

A dumb question, but why still wait? :p... you might gonna go AMD fan boy? ^_^

because the new Amd cards can either be rebrands again and later there will be new cards, or the will be new cards from the beginning which might be on par with the Ti or maybe even better?
