Nvidia GTS250 woes

are Nvidia in trouble again? It would appear that Nvidia are opening a "can of whoopass" again..on themselves

IT IS ALWAYS funny when an unethical company turns on its own supporters as Nvidia did with the latest 'all new' GT250 cards. This time however, their PR stunts cross the line from unethical to purposely false, and hilarity ensues.

What are we talking about? The rebranding of the venerable G92, aka the 8800GT, 9800GT, 9800GTX, 9800GTX+, and several other variants as the GTS250. The NDA goes up on the third of March, and we have complete scores already, but there is no difference between these cards and the older G92 cards. We will save you from having to pour over spreadsheets scratching your head wondering how it is different... it isn't at all.

The new parts are 55nm, just like the old. The clocks aren't different, nothing from a user perspective is different, other than the card losing 9550, an X and a +. Oh yeah, they are jacking up the price for the stupid as well.

Nvidia, however, is desperate to make this seem like something new. Sales are in the toilet, chips cancelled, and 40nm parts are looking unhealthy. Turd polishing time. Enter the marketeers, but they have a problem, some sites are, *GASP*, honest, and will print the truth.

Nvidia has this allergic reaction to the truth, and tries to change how it is presented at every opportunity.

This time however, they crossed the line from plausible deniability to flat out deception. In the middle of last week we heard what Nvidia was up to this time around, but just couldn't believe they would be THAT sleazy. A day or so later, HardOCP published a story about Nvidia stock 'plummeting', basically an indignant backhand for being cut out of the GTS250's launch. Point one confirmed. The rest soon followed.

the rest of this article can be read here

As this comes from a certain person who is well known to have certain feelings about the Green team most people would instantly ignore it,However it would appear that there is some substance behind this story, the site in question is known to be very honest and sometimes harsh with its reviews which makes this seem more interesting

here is a link regarding how Nvidia's stock has dropped and maybe why

from Kyle Bennet(editor in chief @ [H])
And FWIW, this part is true.

The rumor sources cited HardOCP's evaluation support lacking in the areas of PhysX, and CUDA. AIBs were instructed to not sample HardOCP GTS 250 evaluation cards.

Darn that guy's a good writer :o

If this story is even partially true this would mean bad news for nVidia on the enthusiast scene. I mean, threatening to rule a site out from your reviewers list because they do not praise a not even half decent feature? Only a few games use physx, and those who do aren't getting a huge fps leap.

To be honest I'd love to see an unbiased OC3D review of these cards and see if this guy is just ranting or the story is the truth on the performance part. If it is true on both parts, OC3D will probably notice...

well everyone knows that Charlie has a "thing" for Nvidia,But I have no reason to doubt Kyle.

seriously WTH are Nvidia doing these days, they dont seem to know what they are doing

We already noticed with the 8800GT vs 9800GT ;)

9800GT review

Luckily for us, we are valued for giving honest appraisals of products we receive.

Sensible money has been ati for a good while, youll only buy nvidia if you have too much money, or are colour blind :p

Is there any way we can ban links and references to TheInquirer ?

I understand rag newspapers and their legitimacy for entertainment, but that site is one of the worse for reports/news/gossip and outright anti-nVidia-ism.

I did read somewhere that it was due to them shunning them at some point a while back.

Honestly it's like watching EastEnders for a true reflection on London life.

You mean that all incest, rape, underage pregnancy, murder, scamming, affairs and homosexuality aren't all concentrated into a 1 mile square patch of London?

Sure Charlie (the author) might have something against Nvidia, but he has a good track record exposing Nvidia's shady dealings, renaming and general screw ups.

Take for instance the nvidia "bump" story he covered. Couldn't argue with his research involving an electron microscope!

Take it with a pinch of salt, there is some truth behind the story.

I'd read the SundaySport for more detail on nVidia stuff tbh.

There's no point in knowing "A" fact and fabricating and sensationalizing the rest of an article.

"Shady Dealings" is a prime example.
