I know only a little bit of these stuff

Well 1st i have a PCI-E 1.0 slot and if i get the 8800GT will i be underusing it???

and how much power does it use?

I am in CHENNAI, anyone know the price round here ?

The 8800GT will work fine in a PCI-E 1.0 slot. They consume a medium amount of power, a good 500w unit will run them without sweating.

Yep, the will work in any PCI-E x16.

I have a 430W Corsair powering mine, with no sweat.

Gd to note aswell that it will perform on pci-e x16 just the same as pci-e2.

You also might want to consider an aftermarket cooler, as the stock one is a little noisy!

I heard that it is the best card for the price so this is really on the TOP of my priorities

I got mine for £190 with a crysis game bundled (EVGA)

You can turn the fan up/down to suit your needs and it aint too bad on mine.

£170 without crysis (this was in like november so its prolly cheaper)

Any1 done a study of a 2.0 card in both 1.0 slots and 2.0 to see the difference ? (all other factors being equal obviously)

Alot of the 8800GT cards came with a bug where the fan was stuck at 29%, I am not sure if mine came with this thought as I never change the fan speed from auto.

I got the Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GT Golden Sample 1024MB for just under £200 and it doesnt get noisy. It did when I MAX OCed it, but I found all my games run with a FPS above 75 with out OC so I just leave it on NORM settings (that way I can hear the noob trying & failing to stab me in the back ).

Not sure about the pcie 1.0 vs 2.0. On the 3870X2 is makes a difference but I don't think the GT will suffer.

Cooler is a POS.

I got mine at launch, delivered with COH Op fronts bundles for £160. Woop.

It's a good card for the price but can struggle at high res with eye candy on... Scrap that, it's awesome for the price but understandably can't handle high res gaming as well as cards that cost twice the price!

8800GT has some crazy sound levels, seems like it`s either quiet or loud. Threshold about 75% on mine.

Got a friend that has a 512 version and on most games I agree you wont notice much difference in speed, but mine keeps a high FPS when using max textures with max AA, and his has a significate drop especially on really large maps when he does the same.

But all the same if I had a tight budget I would have got the 512 version too.

Yeah, Accelero S1 is brilliant for this card. Using it with a Yate Loon 120mm fan @ 5v and it rarely goes above 40c.

ok guys i am back

I have found this site VERY helpful especially with u guys around.

I have decieded to buy the NVidia 8800 GT XFX . But only 2 more doubts please

1) i have a D945GNT Motherboard with a PCI x16 slot but my doubt is that i heard that the card is LONG very LONG so will it fit in the board ????? when i opened up my panel and saw inside i saw some of those 'clyindrical tanks' passsing close to that slot...

2) i have a 300 W power supply .. please tell me the recommended amount (only 1 card no SLI) and oh i will be playing games like CRYSIS,COD 4, BIOSHOCK,FEAR, all the big guns.....

Well i will be really really happy if i can get this cleared up and as soon as i get the Green signal from u Proffesionals the next thing u will hear from me will be " YEEEEHA THE GAMES ROCK!!!!!

oh and btw i have a Nvidia 7300 LE which if compared to this thing is nothing short of CRAP

The card will physiscally fit in the slot, it's not particularly long.

As for the PSU we need to know how many amps it can supply on the 12v rail (sticker on the side should have this info).

and no more extra fans that is....

Nah. I run mine at around 720 for regular game playing and leave the stock fan on auto tbh. (XFX 670m 8800GT)

Crysis is the only game I`ve experience the fan getting loud in bursts.

Wouldn`t touch the memory clock much at all tbh. Mainly cos if u do too much the drivers complain.

My Asus 8800GT memory is fine at 1000mhz (default 900mhz) although i do have the big glacier fan effort.I wouldnt push it more than 1000 tbh.
