Nuclear Poison

Still trying to get a good overclock out of this system but running LinX makes the system freeze (no BSOD). It still runs because every so often it'll show LinX passing another test. Still happens even at stock settings.

Amazing looking rig dude. I never was keen on UV lighting until I've seen this rig. The UV with the bright green just somehow matches. I love the look of straight WC tubing too.

Also, dat Rainmeter. :D

Thanks for all the positive feedback.
I really want to get an SSD for this build (at least 120GB) but wanted to get one second-hand so it's cheaper for me.
Also I was thinking about suspending the hard drive to stop the sounds of the vibrations.
I have added more UV Green dye to the loop to make the coolant colour 'pop' a bit more and have temporarily installed all white LED lighting while I wait for my other purple LED strips to arrive.

One question though, should I keep the 1300W PSU in there or sell it and get a lower wattage PSU? The reason for the 1300W PSU is that it was a spare one sitting in the garage.

I have been told my CPU temps are very high.
Load temps are around 60C with ambient being around 26C+
Would adding a 120 rad to the roof after the CPU help?

Don't know what voltage you're running on (have scoured the thread but couldn't
find the info), but 60 degs does not seem that high on load to be honest, especially
on 26 + ambient. I would be quite happy with those temps (again, depending on
voltage). But then again, I'm a guy who would rather have slightly higher temps
with a lot more silence, so your priorities might differ in that regard.

Personally, when I was running F@H on my 2600k @ 1.38-something V I always had
~ 68 to 74 deg, depending on ambient. Never had a single problem, and the CPUs
are specified for quite a bit higher. I would have liked to be ~65, but since I did
not have any problems I just left it as it was.

An additional 120 would just make the loop look all messy imo, without bringing all
that much benefit (sure it will get you some improvement, but not enough to really
justify all the additional ugliness imo).

This build looks awesome, the lighting, coolant... It is just perfect, almost. Could have done with some sleeving on the other cables or maybe make a cover to hide some of the PSU?

That's what I thought. I really didn't want to add the 120 rad to the top if it wasn't necessary and I prefer low noise over better performance. The vcore on the 970 is currently 1.4v. When I was on air it would get well over 80C at load so I am pretty happy with 60C it's just that I was told that 60C was apparently "crazy high"...

I am too busy to sleeve all the cables unfortunately and I struggled to finish the 24-pin due to time. Although I was thinking about making a cover for the PSU though I am not keeping this system and I really want to complete my main build.

I'm not the be-all-end-all expert on this, but I think 60C is fine for a 32 nm CPU
according to every review I've ever read/watched.

I think whoever told you it was "crazy high" might have been looking at the maximum Tcase
on Intel's spec site for the 970 (linky), which is 67.9C (so 60C is pretty close), but that is
actually not the maximum core temperature for the CPU.

I've found an interesting article discussing this here. I'm pretty tired so I haven't read it yet in
detail but from skimming it quickly it appears to be quite interesting. I'll definitely have to give
it a closer look once I've slept a few hours ;).

I thought 60C was fine too. The guy who told me it was running hot was using a 2700k (probably at low volts) and I know he had more radiator space and was only cooling the CPU and GPU.

That is a pretty interesting article there, thanks for sharing that!

Hehe, having read it with a working mind, I must say that I find it quite interesting as well. It's
nice to see something different from conjecture and guesswork for once. I will certainly keep
this article in mind as a swinging bat in any future core temp arguments/debates/questions
