Novice in desperate need of help for water cooling in 800D!

Do I need a backplate or will I be fine without it? I emailed EK and asked if my Graphics card will work with their full cover block. It's not in the supported list but the PCB is almost identical to reference.

well it does help regardless plus it stops the block from bending the GPU and PCP

Absolutely. PCB boards are made from fiberglass. When they get hot they expand and when they cool they contract. If there is nothing to hold it straight as it does so then eventually you will get solder cracking. A GPU chip does not expand or contract very well, thus when the board around it does something has to give.

This is exactly why cards like the 3870x2 and other uber high end cards (480 ETC) are all braced. However, on the 460 it shouldn't really logistically need this as it doesn't get hot enough (unless you are pushing it hard, and then it's on your head be it).

When I baked my 8800 Ultra I could clearly see the PCB wasn't straight. So, to aid with that I used thicker memory pads which then allowed the back plate (yeah, my 8800 u has one being a KO ed) to pull it back into shape and hopefully will hold it there. I highly doubt it will ever get hot enough to damage itself again, but it was just a precautionary measure
