Well i can say to you that nokia "upgraded" when going to windows phone OS. windows phone os is a completly diffrent OS to windows mobile.
Windows phone OS is by far the most stable, and responsive OS. The app store on windows phone OS is monitored and spam is not allowed, The applications have to pass cerification before going to the store (i know because ive developed apps for it before. On android app store, there are a lot of apps with spam ads etc, and no cerification is required
Here is my proof of just how much microsoft cares about their windows phone app store. As you can see, they have tested my app on multiple devices checking for bugs before the app was released. They tested my app and found that on certain theme my some of my apps text wasn't visible, and what i had to do to fix it. This just shows how much microsoft cares about good quality apps

But what benefit will a lumia be to me or what ever windows os phone you recommend?
They have the HTC One M8. Check out some reviews and let me know what you think?
Build quality wise it's probably the best out there at the moment (speaking strictly about Android phones). The Sense UI is pretty nice as well.
I can't see how the HTC will benefit me over the Note 3.
HTC looks better, response faster but that's irrelevant because the Note 3 isn't totally slow or ugly but that's my opinions,
for university the Note would stand out for it's office functionality
This video does it.
