Not really impressed with Lian Li

My Lian Li PC-G70 arrived this afternoon. Being the first Lian Li i've ever owned and after reading endless threads on how they make the best cases, I must say I am disappointed.

Comparing the G70 to my TJ03, the G70 feels like its made from tin rather than aluminium. Its extremely bendy and even had a kink in the top corner of the case I needed to bend back into place with my thumb. The aluminium on the TJ03 is much much thicker.

Whats with all the pop rivets on the G70 too? The TJ03 uses screws to secure every part of the case meaning you can easily take the top of the case off or any other part for that matter.

Finally, the case uses plastic far too much. Plastic power switches, plastic decals and a plastic top/bottom to the front of the case. Keeping the front panel on is just 4 plastic push pins.

I almost wish I'd bought a TJ07 now. Not a good start to the new project...

Couldn't you drill the rivets and replace the buttons etc?

Yeah thats pretty much what i'm doing. I've removed a lot of the crap I dont need from inside the case (drive caddy, gpu cooler, psu bracket) and i think i might just continue and drill the rest of the case apart and put it together with screws.

I'll see if i can get a Bulgin switch to replace the plastic trash.

Unfortunately nothing can be done about the fact I can bend the panels of this case in half with my little finger.

I dunno XMS :| My lian-li is total ownage tbh..

Alu buttons everything is aluminum actually. Even the lian-li badge... Only plastic thigns in mine are the guard against sharp edges and the wire management thing.

I know what you mean about the bendy panels. And using plastic braces to secure the front panel to the case is unforgivable. :nono: I had a rivet gun handy so drilling rivets out and replacing them was just as easy as using screws. Apart from that it's still the best case i've owned.

Why should you have to drill them out though. Using rivets is something I would associate with cheaper cases. For the enthusiast or modder they want to be able to pull the case apart with ease....not fiddle around drilling out rivets. And don't even get me started on the plastic!

I'm disappointed to hear this, and I hope it gets better from here-on-in XMS.

I'm glad I'm not the only person unimpressed with the quality. I thougth I was being overly pedantic, but clearly the G70 was just a money saving excersize for Lian Li.

I wish the PC-75 had a PSU area at the bottom like the G70 because i'd probably ditch this case and buy the 75 instead.

Don't get me wrong, overall I'm very happy with this case. It's just that when you spend ~£150 on a PC case you're entitled to expect perfection.

@PV: The G70 actually uses very few rivets to hold things together, screws are certainly used for everything the average person would think about removing. Besides, I don't think it's 'modding' unless you get the drill out.
