Noob Asking About Carbon Fibre

War Machine

Hello all,

I would like to ask some questions about carbon fibre

I currently own a EVGA X99 Classified but i would like to use some carbon fibre vinyl wrap cause i would like to get rid of the red E cause it will not match the colours that i'm going for.

What i would like to know is once i put the carbon fibre on to cover up the red part if i did have to RMA (God i hope not) how easy is the carbon fibre to remove.

This is what the person from EVGA told me.
As long as you would be able to remove the carbon fibre vinyl and any adhesive from the board without damaging it it would be fine. If it has to be RMAed it would have to be received by the RMA Department in the same configuration that it shipped in so any permanent modification to the board and attached heat-sinks would void the warranty.

Thank you.

Is the E pronounced? Lemme have a look..

OK it looks like it is. So you are going to have to make a removable cover.. To do this buy a small piece of A3 acrylic in black. Matt would be preferable. You then need to draw around the entire piece you want to cover. Power off the system, remove the board, put a piece of paper over it and press it down. Then, take a pencil and another piece of paper and scribble a patch over the second sheet (not on the cooler).

Then, rub your finger over the scribble to coat your finger tip in carbon. Then simply drag your finger around the outside edges of the paper over the cooler. This will give you a template. Do not touch the board with that finger, as carbon conducts electricity !

Now use that template to create a 3mm acrylic cover. Then wrap that in carbon/brushed/whatever you wish.

Now you need some of this.

I will assume you are in the USA.

Cut two very small squares of that and stick them to the E on the cooler. Then remove the tape cover and press your new cover down onto those two small pieces.

To remove it simply pull gently until the tape lets go.

@AlienALX

I think i understand what your saying i might just have to keep reading it over & over until i understand, I'm very new to modding so this would be my first mod on a motherboard.

I wished at the time that EVGA would have just gave people who brought the motherboard like different colours and then it would have been up to the person who brought it and then they could have pick a colour that they wanted.

The motherboard is still in it's box i haven't hooked it up yet to see if the thing works, But i will hook it up first before i do any modding i know that.

No i'm not in the USA i'm in Australia.

Thanks.

Oh OK cool beans man. Yeah, just a couple of small pieces of that foam should hold it on.

An easier method would be to remove the cooler, then draw around it. Especially if the rig isn't built :)

@AlienALX
In general how hard is it to remove the chipset heatsink from the motherboard and i if i removed it i don't think it would void my warranty cause you can buy waterblocks for chipsets.

Plus from i have heard is that if anything goes wrong with it EVGA is normally pretty good about RMA'ing their products.

Thanks again.
