NoName, CM storm trooper

so guys this is what the loop should look like

i think the case looks a little empty in the front. i am going to have intake fans in the front as well but what do you guys think??

small update

re did the front fan mount. partly because it was really flimsy without the fans, it looked really bad without them, and it got all warped when i got the whole thing sandblasted

i also took photos of making it

drilled through every other hole to increase airflow. still a little restrictive but it looks better then before

then i also drilled holes to mount my ssd's and hard drive

i didn't have space to set them horizontally so two vertically filled the space nicely

holes for second SSD

mount data drive right on the back.

so now all i need to do is wait for my parts to come in, specifically the 120.3 rad for the top and the fans so that i can make the mounting brackets for that setup. this build has evolved quite a bit from the initial idea.

after i make the mounting brackets for the rad i will fully disassemble the chassis, take out every last rivet so i can get good coverage of paint on all the pieces. im thinking the PSU cover, the "cable shield" and the mounting brackets for the 120.3 rad will be painted black. and the rest of the chassis will be green. looking to go powder coat for the green parts.

will re rivet everything with black headed rivets if i can find any. if not i might have to go the TinyTomLogan route of black hex nuts and bolts

gahhh!!! it's only been a day since i bought ordered parts and i'm already dying from the anticipation of them arriving. i will punt a baby across a football field if anything is delayed!!

waiting for packages from the following:
Aquatuning - Germany, status-arrival on17/01/2012
MDPC - Germany, status - shipped
Performance PC's- Florida, status - arrival on 19/01/2012
Newegg- California, status - unknown
Amazon-Washington, status - unknown

also i got an estimate on powder coating everything. pretty good deal i'd say
will take everything in for the coating after i fit all major components!!

so the first box just came in.

3x Mayhems Pastel Mint Green pre mix
2x Alphacool ultra pure water-system flush.
3.3 meters Masterkleer 7/16 ID clear... has a yellow tinge to it ordered some more from an industrial supplier maybe it wont be the same. either way im putting breen into it so maybe it wont be noticeable.

tomorrow i am going to go over everything and make sure i have all my holes made then i am going to dismantle the whole chassis so that everything can get powder coated.

and about the name. open to suggestions. i'm thinking along the lines of "FrankenTrooper" seeing that all the fab work was made from scrap metal, or along the line of "ToxicWaste" not that its toxic but all the fab work was made from scrap metal, waste from other projects.

so then guys, yesterday i took the parts to the powder coat shop, should be ready by Thursday if the powder gets to them on time!!

some pictures of it all flat packed

i didn't upload these pics the last up date but it is where they should have been
showing the tight clearance i had between the fan on the top rad and the res

and finally the new "oem" masterkleer that i ordered from McMaster-Carr,an industrial retailer, came in

and what a big difference there is in the tubing this one doesn't even have a blue tinge because it has no color. it is clear!!

i ended up going with primoflex ultra lrt...(there newer stuff) same deal tho, no blue.....

really interested in that watercool gpu block tho..... is it light??? i put a koolance 220 and koolance vrm block on my lil cousins rig and it weighs a frik'n ton... had to build a lil bracket in to hold the poor lil card up....

you keep asking for ideas.....my suggestion would be some matching "racing stripes" on your cable shield.....paint the mesh under the roof vents too??? (the front bay covers may be a lil much tho...) id also consider running a stripe down the front of the side panel to match the stripe on the top.....

all in all a beautiful build man....bravo

i actually considered doing the mesh on the side panels and the roof, i have seen pics of people painting the front drive bay mesh as well but it doesn't look too good. I want to see what it looks like first and if i think it need more green then i'll do the panel mesh and the roof mesh.

as for adding paint stripes or anything i think it might be to late. i got a call earlier today from the powder coater that my parts were ready.

I'd say the heatkiller is as heavy as the stock cooler that was on the GTX480, and a little lighter then the Zalman Air cooler i had on it.

i just looked at the specs on the Koolance 220, it seems that the heatkiller is 70 grams (.15 pounds) lighter then the koolance 220.

Guys, my God, the Powdercoat is PERFECT!!!

it is the perfect color green.

I need some advice on a fan controller. I had originally planned to use the built in fan controller on the trooper, however I did some test runs during the mockup and the fans had a sort of pulsing noise to them. Upon investigation I have found out that the fan controller on the trooper is a pulsating voltage fan control. For lower speeds the controller sends out a voltage pulse with a longer time interval between each pulse, something like that, this is not ideal. I don't have drive bays so simply putting in a drive bay controller is out of the question and I would like to be able to controll all fans with one "knob" or a system like what is built into the trooper. Any ideas? I can mod a drive bay controller to fit into the case but I still don't know which one to get.

I will never recommend and use build in fan controller as they always cheap quality to cut the costs.
Did you thought about Corsair Link? This is quite good piece of hardware in my opinion.
If you want more traditional fan controller I will recommend http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BB-001-LP&groupid=701&catid=2331&subcat=189
comes with braided cables for fans and braided temps sensors^_^

So this past weekend I started sleeving the PSU. All was going well up until I ran out of sleeving. Need 3 more wires on the 24pin, and both PCIe connectors. I made a custom Sata connector that needs to be sleeved, and I need to sleeve one of the molex connectors.

I also put in the tubing for the loop. Looks good. Did 6 hour leak test with DI water all went well. Drained the loop I will post some pics of the drain later when I do pics of filling with mayhems.

Also mounted the drives, and needless to say the mother board.

So all I need to do is:
finish sleeving.
Work out the fan control
Refill the loop with mayhems pastel

I also found out that there is a very specific order in which I will have to put it together. So filling the loop will be the very last thing I do.
