Noctua - Q6600

Right I basically have most of the watercooling parts here which have been in the cupboard but they're staying there!

I was wondering which heatsink is the best for the Q6600, I'm talking about the best cooling.

The temps below are @ idle, I get around 55c and hottest stress testing was 62c on a hot day. I have like 1 fan in the case which obviously doesn't help so I was wondering whether someone can spec me up the best Q6600 heatsink and some nice fans for my case.

Currently using Noctua NP

Thank you.

Which Noctua and case exactly? NH-U12P?

I'm using the NH-U12F in an Antec P182SE and getting similar idle temps to you on a super low VID Q6600. That's why it's only clocked to 3GHz. I think there's something wrong with the mounting pressure, I'm going to try and use some washers in there to get it right, as I've had better temps in the past, and I know this cooler should be performing better. The case airflow and cable management is very good in my case.

Nice clock ghosthud1. My Q6600 is the same VID as yours and I'm sure it's capable of getting to at least 3.8, but temps aren't good enough. I'll report back if washers sorted it out though. The mounting system noctua use is good, but doesn't allow much flexibilty whilst protecting from overtightening. I'm sure it's a fine line.

Case at the moment is

How good is that case for cooling? Is there a front mounted 120mm fan? I see there's only one exhaust on the back, might be worth looking into improving the airflow. Can you tell us what the temps are like with the side off?

Temps are exactly the same mate, the case is really open, infact I heard it's 60% opened with hole and vents. This is the front

OK, well the short of it is, you've got a decent heatsink, I'm assuming you have the notua fan still, which is great, so the weak point, assuming the heatsink is mounted correctly with not too much thermal paste (?), would be your case airflow. In the OP you mention you only have one fan installed in the case, I assume this is the rear exhaust. You should put one or two front fans in, and possibly a top or side if available.

I decided to take control of my case cooling (P182SE), so I ripped out the Antec fans and bought a second hand Zalman ZM-MFC1+ and four Yate Loon D12SL-12 fans.

Airflow is better, the case can be quieter when I want it too. I'd start with one or two more 120mm case fans and see how your temps improve.

I have lots of fans just I've never had the time to install them or just too lazy :D. I don't mind noise, the temps are fine on my CPU I was just wondering what cooler I should go for instead of the Noctua. I have 2 fans on the Noctua, the other 1 isn't a Noctua but pulls the hot air really well.

People keep suggesting the TRUE.

Why are you changing your cooler if the temps are alright? The NH-U12P is a more than capable cooler that'll take your Q6600 as high as you want with good case airflow. The TRUE is prettymuch top of the pile for air cooling, but only outperforms the noctua slightly, and it's over £40 without a fan.

If you're looking to spend for the sake of it on a different cooler, mess around with a Corsair H50 or something. Or get the WC stuff out your cupboard!

i have a true on my i5 750 @ 4ghz it reaches 62*-63* thats full load! but got 2 12cm fans strapped to it! :) but am sure i5 runs hotter than 775 anyway!!

not a bad price on the second 1! wud buy that over a true just becos of the fact it is newer! but wudnt say there is much difference in coolin between both!!

looks slightly like a deceptacon on the top!! :)

Some nice overclocks here, im gonna keep an eye on this for hen i get my new mobo, running my q6600 G0 on a G41 chipset which is pants.....

Hey are you still looking for a new cooler? If so I am going to be putting a Noctua NH D-14 on my Q6700 next week (hopefully unless my tax return doesn't come in for some reason on the 15th...). I'm going to post up my results soon after if your still looking for one and would like to see how it does on a similar CPU. I have the 1.25 VID btw for my Q6700.
